I was especially impressed by lirelou's post in the Vietnam sub-forum. Its an period of history that my teachers skipped, and I haven't read much on. After chancing upon this thread, I've found myself spending more time reading posts in the Vietnam sub-forum and trying to learn more.

lirelou, thank you for taking the time to make such a thoughtful and insightful post!

Got to give it to Drusus for stepping into an outside topic, examining the evidence in detail, and drawing his own conclusions based off said evidence with an accompanying explanation as to his though process.

A fine piece of deductive reasoning.

Can I change my vote to Paralus please. He may be wrong about Zama, but he is making my time here more pleasurable.

Drusus Nero for presenting a fine piece of historical analysis on a little publicized piece of history.

Although I appreciate the effort that went into each of the nominees, I am most impressed by Chris' post on slavery as the cause of the Civil War. The article he cites is cogent. His annotations are incisive. As a multi-causal historian, I am reluctant to assign full blame to the slavery issue. However, there is no doubt it was the leading cause.

There's a lot of good stuff in these threads. I'm sticking with Shaun though, mostly because of his real life experiences.

Several are worthy candidates, but I went with lirelou on a narrow margin. A good combination of personal experience and study gave it the narrow edge over G David.

Still have to spread some rep, but thanks for an interesting concept/thread idea. Unfortunately, too busy this month to put together another contender, maybe next month.
