    The Spy Who Loved Me

Nuclear submarines carrying ballistic missiles from the Royal Navy and the Soviet fleet mysteriously disappear. Bond (Roger Moore) is summoned to investigate. On the way he escapes an ambush by Soviet agents in Austria, killing one of them in a downhill ski chase that concludes when he skies off a cliff to fake his death and uses a Union Jack parachute to save himself. Bond learns that the plans for a highly advanced submarine tracking system are on the market. He travels to Egypt. While there Bond narrowly escapes assassination when a gorgeous young woman distracts him, while one of Stromberg's henchmen aims a gun at him. However, the henchman accidentally shoots the girl, killing her and allowing Bond to escape. Whether the girl is an accomplice or innocent is not revealed.

    The Osterman Weekend

The film begins with CIA director Maxwell Danforth (Lancaster) watching a filmed recording of agent Laurence Fassett (Hurt) and his wife making love. When Fassett goes into the bathroom to take a shower two assassins enter the bedroom and kill his wife by holding her down and spraying poison into her nostrils. It is hinted that the woman was an innocent bystander sacrificed by Danforth as collateral damage. The agent, unaware of his employer’s involvement, goes almost insane with grief and rage and begins to hunt down the assassins, eventually uncovering a Soviet spy network known as Omega.

I agree. Having read the book long before I saw the movie, I was even more confused with the plot. (Interesting enough, my parents would not let me see R-rated films, but I read this very graphic book when it came out and I was only 13.) But overall, Weekend is a great spy movie.

There's always a lot of love around for James Bond flics, but they're aren't the nitty-gritty and they're too "pretty".

              Osterman Weekend, unquestionably.
