First reports said no distress call was made but now the Egyptian military have said that they did pick one up minutes before the aircraft disappeared off the radar

Wreckage now found off Crete identified as the missing aircraft. Hopefully the black boxes will be recovered.

They say it made a 90-degree turn Left, then a 360 going right... sounds like an attempt at evasive action to me.

And word yet on who was on that plane?

The sharp turns could just be a result of the incident - i.e. the loss of control. Also it wasn't indicated on what instrument that data was acquired so it is uncertain how reliable it is. Also given that civilian airliners do not have radar warning indicators or other such instrumentation and that they have very limited view and maneuverability it is rather unlikely that it would have been evasive maneuver, more like an unrecoverable spin.

Then again the Greek defense officials who fished up parts reported that the parts were not blue and white. On the other hand the sky was clear in the flightradar which implies that there weren't any traffic that flew with transponders turned on at that time near the EgyptAir. Though not all aircraft fly with their transponders turned on so mid-air collision is a possibility.

Yes lots but nothing significant even for the most crazed conspiracy theorist

Greece is denying that report now.

I was wondering the same thing. Must've been important passengers for 3 air marshals to be on board one plane.

Threats and warnings are almost a daily thing these days.

Each air route has a different risk assessment.

I hear that Paris and Brussels rank really high in risk due to previous attacks and the high concentration of Muslims and Cairo being the designation is sure to add on risk points.

Heard on the radio that there are supposedly 57 employees at the Charles De Gaulle Airport on the terrorist watch list. Maybe some of them are being "questioned" right now as we speak.

One of the more interesting aspects seems to be there were 3 "sky marshals" on board that's very rare on any commercial flight in Europe.

One to escort a VIP is not uncommon, but 3 would indicate something or someone very exceptional being transported.

The officials have to know who/what was so exceptional, but I'm not sure they'll be sharing that information with us. I couldn't sleep, so I got up at 0300 for some ACG and a pre-work walk. There doesn't appear to be anything new on the news: just a different map and reporter.

Scratch that: they are reporting again that they have found the real wreckage.
