  • Israeli general warns of 'devastating war' with Hezbollah

JERUSALEM (AP) — A top Israeli military leader on Wednesday issued a stern warning to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, saying any future war between the two enemies will unleash "devastating" damage on Lebanon.

Maj. Gen. Yair Golan, Israel's deputy chief of staff, told foreign journalists that Hezbollah has developed capabilities that present "unprecedented" threats to Israel. Israel estimates the group has over 100,000 rockets and missiles in its arsenal.

Golan said any future war will be "much harsher" than anything experienced in the past 20 years.

"In any future crisis, they are not going to see a small war in Lebanon. It's going to be decisive. It's going to be full-scale war," he said.

    Cry for the Lebanise people.

It is to be expected that Israel takes action sooner or later.

Now seems like a good time with Syria fully occupied with their Civil War.

If the experience of previous conflicts in Lebanon are anything to go by - via Cyprus - doubly attractive now as it is in the EU.

Given Israel has faced annihilation via ground invasion on two fronts as well as a ceaseless domestic terror threat, 'unprecedented' would seem to imply chemical, nuclear or biological. If something like that went down and killed a lot people I'm sure there would be massive retaliation. If Israel does a preemptive attack it wouldn't have the support of the international community, which may not matter of course.

Israel will always have US support, despite Obama's reluctance. He is about to boost military aid to Israel after a letter signed by 83 Senators demanded the increase.

“We are prepared to sign an MOU [memorandum of understanding] with Israel that would constitute the largest single pledge of military assistance to any country in US history,” a White House official told Reuters on Monday.

In the rhetoric of the ME unprecedented could mean anything from granny will give you a smack around the ear to nuclear annihilation. Hyperbole abounds, but it isn't always hyperbole which is what makes it all so dangerous. At a much lower level it's the same trend that made doing commercial negotiations out there so fraught - I'm glad I was never officially a diplomat.

Considering that Israel has been forced to deal with aggressive neighbors for all of its existence, AND has been forced to deal with those same neighbors recently with the proverbial one armed tied behind their back, coupled with Hezbollah willingly trying to provoke Israel using terror and such, Israel should be due to unleash some actual hell on their enemies for once.
