  • Canadian deployment past 2011 possible.

    http://www.cbc.ca/politics/story/201...tary-2011.html

A group of MPs visiting Afghanistan has left the door open for an agreement in Parliament to keep some Canadian troops in the country after the current mission ends next summer.

At the end of their five-day visit, members of the parliamentary committee on the Afghan mission said that they were surprised at the level of success the Canadians have had militarily, as well as in terms of development.

Good to hear some of our allies are willing to stick it out to the end. Kudos to our Canadian friends.

It is much more likely that troop deployments would be limited to training roles, rather than combat ones. Canada's Prime Minister has too much riding on his promise for a 2011 pullout. Not that the PM is the most honest of fellows...

Oh, I'd say that keeping terrorists on the run and killing them is a good cause.

Actually Tater..If you check with the CAF guys you would find that a lot of them do multi tours for the money involved...ie No income tax on any monies earned during their tour(s)...I know three troopers who have done multi tours just so they can get enough money to buy a house when they come back and IF they come home the hardway our Feds pay their insurence $250,000 tax free to the wife.....personally IF I was still IN and had no cash..sure I would have done tours, but Im not, they are and we lost another one today...sad boy, sad...

So you are saying they just do it for the money? Seems fairly disrespectful on your part.

As for me, I don't buy that. There are lots of ways to make money...a lot more easier ways to make money. What good is a house/money when you are 6-deep...I suppose one could say they do it for their families but I would bet that their families would trade any amount of money/possessions to have them home.

IMHO, I would say the money is a fringe but at the core is a desire to serve and a belief that what they do is important, that it is honorable.

I think the news is great! The Canadians are fine soldiers who bring their expertise to the battle. It is far better keeping them on the run, nailing a few here and there rather than letting them get organized enough to bring operations to our home soil of North America. Erase the Can/US border when we consider their target lists.

I am an individual, just a retired citizen now who feels somewhat safer with what we are doing. Can it be done better? I believe so. Will it end all attacks on the US or on Canadian soil? No, I'm not naive to the point that I feel that we are totally safe. But much better that they play guns over there.

Well, whether they do it for cash or glory, or a sense of patriotic fervor in defense of the premise of democracy, or keeping the rat bastards on their turf is moot. Whether they train a shooter or support him or shoot is also moot.

The point is kill the damn, fundo, terrorist. And if that takes time so be it.
War, for whatever reason, isn't going to simply vanish.

IT'S THE PRICE WE PAY TO KEEP THE FUNDO FROM DOING IT HERE.

                    Like it or not.

Otoh the Jhidaddist-lover, liberal or socialist; covert or overt, still hung up on utopian peace ideaologies will never get it. Their not supposed to. Which is why they remain defacto terrorist supporters.

Ntl. Thank you Canada for your willingness to stand in the breach.
