    21st century mass culture does that fairly well. IMO one of the drivers of militancy is the fact that there is now no where for backward cultures to hide. Mass air travel, wireless communications, DVDs so cheap they are given away as promotions. We waste more than most Muslim countries produce.

    The late OBL originally went off the deep end because of the US presence defending Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. We brought decadent music, female flag officers, and generation X to one of the most conservative societies on the planet.

    The most recent protest in Saudi Arabia? Women driving their own cars. We are winning. You can't tell it from the headlines and no one with a finger in the $$$ pie will admit it. Two Arab governments have fallen, four more are in play and al Qaeda had nothing to do with any of them.

      'Al-Qaeda jihadist animation targets children'
      http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14232143

      The post on the al-Shamouk website was authored by someone calling himself Abu al-Laith al-Yemen, Quilliam said.

      It quoted him as saying: "The cartoon movie al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula is a very exciting story that tells the facts about who let down the Islamic religion and the Prophet...

      "It aims to catalyse the youth and the children to follow the steps of Islamic jihadist figures. It includes real incidents and features heroic actions by the mujahideen in the Prophet's peninsula.

      "These incidents include raids, armed engagements and assassinations."

      The film was an "alternative to the poison that is broadcast by other TV channels to our children and youth", he added.

      • Saudi Cleric Issues Fatwa Defending Pedophilia as ‘Marriage’

        Dr. Salih bin Fawzan, a cleric in Saudi Arabia’s highest religious council, has reportedly issued a fatwa asserting that there is no minimum age for marriage and that girls can be married “even if they are in the cradle.”
        ~~~~~~~~~
        Fawzan then reportedly concludes his fatwa with the warning:
        “It behooves those who call for setting a minimum age for marriage to fear Allah and not contradict his Sharia, or try to legislate things Allah did not permit. For laws are Allah’s province; and legislation is his excusive right, to be shared by none other. And among these are the rules governing marriage.”
            • AQ isn't the only threat or expression org. of Islamic Jihad. It begins to look like many will use the "Arab Spring" as a way to turn back the clock rather than move ahead into the 21st century;
              Islamists Call for Shariah Law at Massive Egyptian Demonstration
              " The decision by the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s best organized political force, and other Islamist groups to participate significantly boosted the turnout. These groups stayed away from recent demonstrations that sought to keep up pressure on the military council that took power after Mubarak’s fall, leading to smaller crowds.
              But the Islamists’ participation also highlighted the growing rift between them and liberal activists. Some Islamist groups rallied their members to the square to oppose the adoption of a set of guidelines for drafting a new constitution after parliamentary elections later this year. "
              ...
              " Crowds of ultraconservative Salafis, however, gave a common protests chant an Islamic twist – sparking criticisms from others who said the chants violated an agreement to avoid divisive issues.
              Instead of “Peaceful, peaceful,” which demonstrators have chanted during confrontations with security forces, they repeated “Islamic, Islamic.“ And instead of ”The people want to topple the regime” – a chant made famous in Tunisia and adopted across the region – they yelled, “The people want to implement Sharia,” a strict form of Islamic law.
              Salafis are ultraconservatives, close to Saudi Arabia’s Wahhabi interpretation of Islam and more radical than the Brotherhood. They seek to emulate the austerity of Islam’s early days and oppose a wide range of practices like intermingling of the sexes that they view as “un-Islamic.” Many also reject all forms of Western cultural influence.
              Islamic protests elsewhere in Egypt turned violent. "
              AND;
              New Poll: ‘Trouble for the West’ as Egyptians On Pace to Elect Muslim Brotherhood
              " Remember Amr Moussa? He’s the Egyptian presidential candidate — who is also a part of the Muslim Brotherhood — who said in May that Hamas — the terror group — is not a terror group. Now, a new Newsweek/Daily Beast poll finds that he‘s the likely winner in Egypt’s upcoming election, and his party is likely to gain power. And according to Newsweek, that’s bad news for Israel and America.
              “The Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s largest Islamist group, is poised to win the largest share of the vote in parliamentary elections,” the Daily Beast writes, “the man who appears to have a clear shot at the presidency, Amr Moussa, has made his name criticizing Israel; and a large majority of respondents favor amending or revoking the cornerstone of regional stability, the Camp David Accords.” "
                  • Muslim Group Seeks to Ban Sharia Law in America
                    “Many of us fled the Muslim world to escape Shariah law…We do not wish these laws to follow us here.”
                    Ex-Muslim Author: Koran Demands ‘Jihad’ & Teaches Believers to ‘Hate’ Christians and Jews
                    “When I lived in Saudi Arabia, not only did I look at non-Muslims as second class, you would look at non-devout Muslims as second class citizens.
                    If Islam has to prosper, be the superior religion, then certain steps must be taken by its followers, including spreading Islam at any cost, including the sword and killing any opposition.
                    So you learn all of these things and then of course you learn that the Koran tells you to hate the Christians and the Jews.”
                    It is these messages that al Fadi desperately wants Americans, among other Westerners, to better understand. To address these issues, he has written a book called ‘The Qur’an Dilemma.”
                    In particular, he believes that the West has been fed a more favorable, less volatile picture of Islam in its entirety. One subject he covers in-depth is the Koran’s call for jihad, or “holy” war, against non-believers.
                    “It is basically a proscriptive demand found in the Koran when it comes to jihad – killing the infidels, spreading Islam until there is no other religion on earth except the religion of Allah,” he explains.
                        OR, more precisely, what the world needs is for more people to listen and heed 'people like this'.
                        Few grasp that this planet is like a "The Dosadi Experiment"; wherein Humanity remains divided, 'By Design'(?); into Racial, Ethnic, Cultural, Religious, and/or Political divisions to ensure "Perpetual Conflict Matrixes". It isn't so much our "nature" as the circumstances we've been 'thrust into' by those on a level below "The Creator/Grand Intelligent Designer" yet thur various devices, above that "level" of we 'Humans' (???).
                        IMO of course based upon my current level of historical researches.
                              How military leaders have let us down
                              By LT. COL. DANIEL L. DAVIS
                              "
                              The following month, Anthony Cordesman, on behalf of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, wrote that ISAF and the U.S. leadership failed to report accurately on the reality of the situation in Afghanistan.
                              “Since June 2010, the unclassified reporting the U.S. does provide has steadily shrunk in content, effectively ‘spinning’ the road to victory by eliminating content that illustrates the full scale of the challenges ahead,” Cordesman wrote. “They also, however, were driven by political decisions to ignore or understate Taliban and insurgent gains from 2002 to 2009, to ignore the problems caused by weak and corrupt Afghan governance, to understate the risks posed by sanctuaries in Pakistan, and to ‘spin’ the value of tactical ISAF victories while ignoring the steady growth of Taliban influence and control.”
                              How many more men must die in support of a mission that is not succeeding and behind an array of more than seven years of optimistic statements by U.S. senior leaders in Afghanistan? No one expects our leaders to always have a successful plan. But we do expect — and the men who do the living, fighting and dying deserve — to have our leaders tell us the truth about what’s going on."
