  • We're Shutting Down...Again

The governor of CA issued closures for all indoor businesses and activities today.

When asked if protests will be allowed. Our governor said yes, because it's an outdoor activity.
He will not tolerate any indoor protesting. How many indoor protests have you seen recently?

It's better than nothing, but the US needed a real shutdown. Had we closed everything from the start, we'd probably be on the way out of this by now.

I don't think that a total shutdown would have mattered. It might have helped kick the can further along down the road, but these massive waves were inevitable, in the face of crowd behaviour.

Think of the epidemic as akin to a fire. You need only a single spark or ember to ignite a fire storm. A total shutdown would eventually bring that spark either from a dormant/hibernating source or in from the outside (i.e. traveller, trucker, etc.) The continued lack of physical separation would eventually allow that spark to cause a maelstrom. It was only a matter of time.

I have thought that the only thing that might have the slightest effect on modifying behaviour would be to have someone running 24/7 feeds of patients dying from the virus. Spam the hell out of all the social media with live-stream feed of people actually dying in their beds. Get the younger victims to spam TikTok while fighting for breath. People are just not sufficiently scared.

Positive results are increasing due to more tests. The death toll percent based on the number of tests is not increasing. Most of the new positive results are young people due to the large gatherings at protests, which the left-wing media won't report.

If he allows protests, he cannot legally institute a shutdown. The Colorado Governor has already been so informed. Know any good lawyers?

What needs to happen is for just one Democrat governor to get recalled, THEN all the nonsense will cease.

                His own words:

When asked if the closure order included protests Newsom said, “We have a framework around protests,” indicating that the new restrictions would prohibit indoor, but not outdoor gatherings of that type.
Outdoor protesting will be allowed. He has a framework for them.

Why do you have problems with peaceful protests, which are a constitutional right? Do you have problems with Trump rallies, such as the one in Tulsa?

                      Exactly.

We are constantly told how the virus is surging in florida and is a new crisis, but their total deaths are about 30-40% of the total number of deaths as locked down Illinois even though Florida has twice the population.
I have noticed that every media report on a trump rally or conservative protest mentions "despite the risk". But I have never heard any such comment on any riot or protest of the left.

Covid goes to leftist protests too.

My dictionary's definition of "peaceful" doesn't include words like: "looting", "burning", "murder", "rape or assault".
Could you tell me the one you are relying on?
I feel so foolish not knowing the correct definition of the word.

There is a difference between a peaceful protest, and a riot, which usually includes looting, burning, and murder. That you cannot tell the difference between a constitutional right and unlawful behavior is enlightening.

                            All protests are constitutionally protected.
Sadly too many of our elected officals seems to think that only BLM protests are protected.
I doubt anyone has a problem with a protest, but they do have a problem with a protest that turns into rioting and destruction as has happened with depressing regularity or selective permission to protest.

                            For instance:
Speaking on CNN Thursday night, de Blasio said the demonstrators’ calls for social justice were too important to stop after more than a month of demonstrations have not led to an outbreak of coronavirus cases.

“This is a historic moment of change. We have to respect that but also say to people the kinds of gatherings we’re used to, the parades, the fairs — we just can’t have that while we’re focusing on health right now,” de Blasio told host Wolf Blitzer.

                            https://nypost.com/2020/07/09/nyc-al...-large-events/

So protests are good and no risk, but parades, fairs and other gatherings bad.

More hypocrisy from elected officals regarding "protests"

Judicial Watch has filed suit against Washington DC because it has failed to approve its request to paint a street mural saying

"No One Is Above The Law"

BLM was granted permission almost immediately, but despite 3 weeks of requests the dem mayor won't respond to the Judicial Watch request.
