Sh*t! I wouldn't serve you either, at least not without a net and a chair.

All kidding aside, white privilege does exist, though it doesn't quite manifest itself in the way that some people think. In my experience, anybody will get the second interview and ultimately the job over an African-American male. African-American men are seen as too unskilled, and too belligerent, to be tolerated in most workplaces. (Bear in mind that I said African-American men. In my experience such prejudices don't usually extend to West Indians or African immigrants, who are often viewed as hard working and enterprising.) What white privilege won't do is keep a guy from getting fired. As a white man, there are certain expectations to be met, and if they're not, then such a white man is tagged as a loser and canned. Again, that's my experience, not necessarily representative of anyone else's.

Had me an African-American roommate years ago. (We've been friends since childhood, and still keep in touch regularly.) Anyways, one afternoon we entered the Union Square subway station, arguably the busiest station in the system. Upon dropping our token into the turnstyle entering the system, the eyes of about twenty NYC Transit police officers bored into my friend, who was walking immediately adjacent to me. I could actually feel those forty eyeballs as if they were physically touching my person. Out of a crowd possibly hundreds, my friend maintained the complete and undivided attentions of those officers throughout our walk across the 20yd long mezzanine.

On the Garden State Parkway black men get pulled over constantly, usually old farts making their way home from the casinos in Atlantic City. One time I flew from Cape May to Secaucus -- roughly 150 miles -- in about an hour thirty: an average speed of 105mph. I was driving a black 1992 Volvo 240, so that might have explained why the NJ State Police didn't look at me, but as God is my witness, I saw at least four Lexus's driven by middle aged or elderly black men get pulled over.

In academia and entertainment I'd say that there's a certain black privilege. It's acceptable, for example, for black comedians to include racially stereotypical jokes in their routines, and the competition amongst universities to recruit the most radical African-American professors is itself the stuff of comedy. Of course, that probably doesn't balance things out, due to the paltry numbers employed as professional entertainers or Ivy League academics, but it sure looks silly.

Seriously? If you take a look, thee are a lot of very rich black people, especially entertainers, film actors and athletes. There are corporate CEO's and Wall Street types who are also black, and the personal worth of people like Obama, Jesse Jackson, Maxine Waters and others like them is also considerable.

So the real answer is NO. So-called" white privilege" is a propaganda term invented by black people to justify self-designated victim status. Most of us are just working class people living from paycheck to paycheck, just like they are.

And the beverage of the day is...

Author Richard Rothstein says the housing programs begun under the New Deal were tantamount to a "state-sponsored system of segregation," in which people of color were purposely excluded from suburbs.
