  • On The Subjects of COVID, Masks and Americans

Just when I thought I had seen it all, I saw one of these on a WalMart employee stocking shelves over the weekend.
His mask was plain, but...so many questions...

Wearing a mask will be a way of life moving forward. Every retail business in the county where I reside requires a mask or you're not allowed in. Even gas stations and Quickie Marts or 7-11s are requiring mask for entry. I don't see it easing up anytime soon.

Masks like this one? For an on-duty WalMart empl0yee?

And yes...unless the government can guarantee a steady supply of masks, the mask phase is effectively over. For one thing, it seriously interferes with verbal communication, especially on a phone.

BTW - governors cannot order - they can only recommend. There is no existing law under which an American can be punished for not wearing a mask, and too many reasons why they do not have to.

The mask does not protect us from anything. It only serves as the Democratic Party's symbol of suppression and surrender to their Socialist New World Order. Ask yourself why the politicians aren't wearing them, or the TV announcers, or a host of others. Just the sheeple.

Would seem governor fuhrer Inslee believes he can order anything, under his "emergency powers" ...

Washington state to require face masks after county runs out of hospital beds

        By Li Cohen
        June 24, 2020 / 12:59 PM / CBS News

        ....
Because of the uptick, Inslee and the state's secretary of health have issued a public health order mandating the use of face coverings. The order, which goes into effect on Friday, requires most people in the state to wear something that covers their nose and mouth. Coverings will be required in public indoor areas, and public outdoor areas that don't maintain six feet of social distancing.

The only individuals not required to adhere to the policy are those who are deaf or hard of hearing, children under the age of five, people who are eating, and those in other "common sense" situations.

Those who willfully violate the mandate will face a misdemeanor charge, Inslee said.

The battle over masks in a pandemic: An all-American story

          June 19, 2020
          ...
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Max Parsell hasn't been wearing a mask during the coronavirus pandemic and doesn't intend to start. It's a matter of principle.

“Making individual decisions is the American way,” Parsell, a 29-year-old lineman for a power company, said as he picked up his lunch at a barbecue joint at a rural crossroads south of Jacksonville. “I’ll social distance from you if you want, but I don’t want the government telling me I have to wear a mask.”

Parsell need not worry: Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has not made mask-wearing mandatory here in Florida. That’s in sharp contrast with what’s happening more than 2,000 miles away in California, where Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Thursday reacted to rising caseloads by making mask-wearing mandatory.

Governor Cooper of North Carolina made them mandatory today. I have no problem with it. A nurse was shown on television today stating that 'it's a mask now or a ventilator later-take your pick.'

And the idea that not wearing a mask is 'principle' is really stupid. Governor DeSantis is a moron. He was when he ran for governor and he is now. He's one of the reasons that the virus is spreading quickly in Florida-along with Texas and Arizona.

If you want to use the term 'fuhrer' it might be better applied to Trump and his nonsense.

Inslee's nonsense is a three month long and running shutdown of the economy in this state putting about half of the small businesses out of business and their employees out of jobs. Like most Democrats he is economically ignorant and incompetent. Meanwhile he has taken no cut in pay, benefits, and other perks of the office, nor does he wear a mask.

In short, proving "We are NOT all in this together" as this tinpot dictator exceeds his authority and decides whom and what is "essential" and "non-essential".

Oregon County Requires Face Masks…for White People ONLY

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) An Oregon County passed a directive last week requiring everyone to wear a face mask in public, except for people of color worried about “racial profiling.”

The Lincoln County Public Health Administrator announced last week that “all individuals” in the county would be required to wear masks in indoor and outdoor public settings.

Children and people with health conditions or disabilities are exempted from the rule, and so are “people of color who have heightened concerns about racial profiling and harassment due to wearing face coverings in public,” the directive states.
                    ...
This exception seems to be the result of concerns raised by online activists, despite the fact that black and Latino communities have been disproportionately impacted by the virus.

More than one in five cases (21%) affect those in the black community, and more than one in three (34%) are Latino, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

However, according to 2019 census estimates, only 13% of the total US population is black and 18% Latino.
                    ...
But for those in Lincoln County worried about the new double-standard, it appears the county’s directive isn’t meant to be enforced anyway. It is designed to induce “voluntary compliance,” according to the order, and states that “no person shall intimidate or harass individuals who do not comply.”

The nurse was a moron. Only a small proportion of those who catch Covid will end up in hospital and a tiny proportion will need a ventilator. Saying "it's a mask now or a ventilator later-take your pick" is scaremongering.

Apparently then, almost everyone in the State of Wisconsin will be on a ventilator very soon.

More than 40 million Americans caught COVID, and there is no proof at all that wearing a mask or not was the cause of it .
Three on 1000 died, and there is no proof that this was caused by wearing or not a mask .
Wearing a mask is mainly giving an illusion that one will not be infected by COVID.

In Germany you have to wear a mask in any shop or supermarket. Its not a big issue. Once people understood that it protects others, not yourself, people got used to it. It doesnt matter how it looks, most just wear the simple hospital style mask. If you prefer the kinky sadomaso style you may do so, though its just not practical, as the normal masks already have a tendency to feel hot...

You will get the mandatory mask too, just a matter of time. Its one of the easiest measures to reduce the spread.

Unfortunately, the masks in general use do nothing at all to stop the COVID virus. To be effective, they must first of all be made to filter out all particles smaller than 150 microns, (the particle size of COVID) but most importantly, they must be discarded after every single use and replaced with a fresh one. The moment you enter a building wearing a used mask, you bring everything in with you, and you then carry everything back into the next place or your home, and your vehicle is fully contaminated just form opening the doors and getting in and out since no protection is in place. The problem is compounded by the fact that most people do not wear their mask properly to begin with because it's hot, uncomfortable and restricts fresh air intake. Many people either fail to completely cover their nose, or leave big gaps around their mouths, or wear masks that might as well be made out of cheese clot because they aren't even made from proper mask material - bandanas, scarves, that sort of thing.

You would also need to wear a gown and gloves which you also discarded for fresh ones every time you ventured out, because your clothes also collect everything from every place you go, as do your shoes. It's kind of like walking in the rain - just holding a newspaper over your head does not keep you dry all over.

And, of course, every surface inside and outside your home is already heavily contaminated by anything and everything your picked up and brought home, like the groceries on the shelf or items from a local store used by everyone else, so in the end it just does't work out as an effective barrier against anything. Meanwhile, the HVAC sysem in the building is merrily circulating the air making sure that viral particles are spread throughout the entire space.

The official government response is that "you are protecting others" by wearing a mask, but that would not be true even if your were positive for the virus, because the others are not adequately protected either, and they have already been exposed to the same level of viral contamination surrounding them that you have.

It looks good on paper but I'm sorry to say that it just doesn't work out in real life. It does, however, seem to reassure people, and it gives the government a way to claim they are actually doing something.

For what it's worth, "social distancing" is equally useless, for most of the same reasons. Since the virus is already present in the environment, and you have to assume that to always be true, staying farther apart accomplishes nothing.

I used to work in Infectious Disease for several years at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, so I'm no stranger to the real procedures and the failures of the current system in use. To really protect yourself from an airborne particulate infectious virus is a lot of work.
