    What do you guys think?

To me it has been a pretty constant idea for many years.

Capitalism has made the american life a lie. Religious fanatism with money as the main god, a lack of common scientific education, insane level of patriotism, readily available weaponry with high spread among the society, a culture of debt, hatred and distrust along with laws only for the rich and a psychotic culture of fear make up for a perfect cocktail for the new american civil war. Donald Trump calling his base to the arms to defend "democracy" in November is just another step.

They can't even be bothered to vote - and you think they will go to war for their politicians ?

    I doubt it.

Trump will be reelected in november, and in 4 years someone else,

things will be much the same, but we'll all be 5 years older

First, I want to be humble and not assume that something will not happen. I am a child of the Cold War era and I saw the USSR collapse during my lifetime. I do not think that there were many who anticipated such development at least during their life time.

Second, assuming that after an election, certain blue or red states choose to secede (or at least put forward a plan for secession), I doubt that there will be many Americans of the opposite political spectrum who would be willing to risk their lives to force those states remain in the Union. If CA secedes, Texans will probably have a party and the opposite will happen if TX decides to secede.

Third (and this is the biggest obstacle), the economic complications from a US secession will be severe, especially for the states which want to secede. We saw how difficult it was for the UK to move away from the EU despite its very loose economic and political relationship. I imagine the difficulties in the case of an American state trying to get away fro the US is going to be several orders of magnitude more complicated.
My most dangerous mission: I landed in the middle of an enemy tank battalion and I immediately, started spraying bullets killing everybody around me having fun up until my computer froze...

Civil War II, only a subject that I hear from the Right Wing. No one in their right mind would go to war over such a disgusting person as Trump. That is the only issue, Trump losing and his lemmings not excepting the out come.

Cross-posted from another thread, as I didn't see this one. My apologies.

          -----

In my darker moments, I have to admit to myself that I have a growing belief that the experiment called the United States of America is done.

The gulf between red and blue has become too large and is still growing. There are too many people for which the Red vs Blue War is a full time occupation, and that includes more than a few members of this forum. There are too many people who have explicitly decided that in a choice between fact and ideology they'll pick ideology. There are too many people who don't mind the undermining of democratic principles if it means that their side "wins". There are too many people willing to lock themselves in Facebook echo chambers.

There are clear reasons why the country finds itself in this predicament:
          • The erosion of manufacturing and attendant jobs due to globalism
          • At the same time, the explosion of wealth disparity since the 80's.
          • Unresolved racial tensions
          • A DNA level fear of anything that hints at socialism, skillfully and carefully sustained by the super-wealthy
And more. All of these lead to a weakened sense of shared welfare and, in my opinion, create a fertile ground for populism.

This can be fixed. But it won't be quick.

I think a lot of people are kidding themselves that a Democratic win in 2020 will "fix" things. I think the next President could spend their entire 8 year term in office doing nothing by try to mend the rifts between red and blue and still not succeed, while at the same time getting very little else done. And, while I try very hard to stay out of US politics, I don't sense Biden is the kind of person to succeed at this job.

I don't think there will be any fighting. But if there is not a grass roots, bipartisan effort to seal this breach, and soon, I wonder what the US will look like when an another entire generation has been subsumed by the red vs blue war. I wonder how long it will be before parts of the country just look at each other and say "this just isn't working out".

Another 4 years of Trump and the US will look like Brazil...them that have It and intend to keep it and them that dont...Trump will con his base into supporting him then forget about them as soon as he is in office where he will be busy working on changing your US Constitution so that he can/will be elected as Supreme Leader for Life then Little Donald will take over......

In doing this Trump will have pulled the greatest Con in American history on the American people....guess you get what you vote for......how long did your empire last before descending into a dictatorship??

Absolutely correct. It will be interesting, though, to see what Trump and his minions attempt to pull if he loses.
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.

You must mistake me for someone else,

I'm an ocean away and I don't give a flying fig about the US Constitution

I don't necessarily disagree. There a number of other candidates for that title though, Lance Armstrong gets my vote....unless Trump wins Le Tour in 2021.

They voted for "something else", and that's what they got imho.

how long did your empire last before descending into a dictatorship ??
The little city of Gent has been here since the year 800 or so, we'll survive Trump too I'm sure

Maybe they will create a false claim that the winner colluded with a foreign country to steal the election and try to impeach him on that claim?

nah, no one would be stupid enough to try that.

                        Civil War?

One side makes the food and drills the crude. The other side consumes it.

                        Cut off the supply.

                        End of war.

This post is a prime example of how the United States is becoming a failed state.

                              Truly sad to see.
