  • Guard deployments may end one day short of mark needed for benefits

Trump must step in and ensure the Guard members get their 90 days. It was an old anti American ploy by some companies to fire workers before their 90 days so they would not get union benefits and such.

Tens of thousands of National Guard troops responding to the coronavirus pandemic could see their deployments halted one day short of qualifying for a host of veterans benefits, according to a new report from Politico released Tuesday.

The newspaper said federal officials in an interagency call last week acknowledged that the Guard deployments are scheduled to stop on June 24, one day short of the 90 days needed to qualify for certain retirement and GI Bill benefits.

More than 40,000 Guard members are currently serving under Title 32 orders, the largest domestic employment of the force since the Hurricane Katrina disaster in 2005.

But Trump is always touting how much he supports the armed forces...yet another crock from Trump.
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.

        How is this Trump's fault?

What kind of halfwit could not have foreseen the PR nightmare this action would become?
Planning to end the deployment 10-14 days earlier could easily have avoided such embarassment. And, if they really needed an extension to June 24th, that change could have been made more palatably.

Can the state governors step in to give them an extra day?

With the budget problems faced by many Governors I doubt many can just order an extra day of duty. It would be nice if they could.

How can the POTUS be omniscient, probably the fault of some leftist deep-state bureaucrat who also embezzled state funds to pay off his wife's credit card.

Okay, if Trump intervenes and fixes this, will you stop bitching and moaning about him 24/7?

I'm not 'bitching and moaning' but posting material that I believe is relevant to the nation regarding the idiot in the White House. Trump is a disgrace and is hurting the country domestically and internationally. If you can't see that, then that's your worry, not mine.

You're supporting a failure and a fraud and that speaks to much of the problem.

They can, just as they can "order people to stay home, wear masks, close businesses, go bankrupt, lose homes and mortgages and be locked down for months while being stripped of their Constitutional rights.

The states are not going to bail themselves out - they are going to demand a lot of relief money from the taxpayers to cover their own actions. They can certainly figure out how to handle this situation fairly.

                            Okay, here it is.

Trump administration officials are preparing plans to extend the federal deployment of more than 40,000 National Guard members performing coronavirus relief work across the country, after scores of lawmakers moved to pressure President Donald Trump to keep the Guards in place past June.

Four people familiar with the matter said the administration is prepared to extend the deployments through July, which would maintain federal funding for troops administering Covid-19 tests, disinfecting nursing homes and performing other public safety duties in nearly every state and federal territory. An extension would also help thousands of Guard members qualify for federal retirement and education benefits for which they would otherwise fall only one day short of obtaining.

For those of you who do not know, the governors are the ones who manage the National Guard, not Trump. The federal government is footing the bill but the governors manage them.

As the number of coronavirus cases increases in the U.S., President Donald Trump Sunday night ordered National Guard troops in three states to operate under a status that allows them to be managed by state governors, but be paid by the federal government.
