Seems like most here just can't get it into their stone. The mask are not for your protection! They are to protect others from YOU! Would be professionals should understand that if hey are what they claim? Why does everyone in an OP wear a mask? Are they afraid to get attacked from some gallbladder or are the mask there to protect the patient from getting infected by the operating team? Some are just so dumb dense!

Forget it. Must have said that three times by now.

The large majority will continue to think of it as self-protection, rather than it being a permanently attached handkerchief, which it actually is.

On top of that, they will wear and handle it the wrong way, wear it far too long, use it as an excuse to get really close to other people, and wash it time and again while being a disposable.

The stupidest are the people wearing it under their noses. Saw one at the grocery store yesterday.

They must believe that sneezes come out of their mouth and not their nose. Can anyone remember the last time they coughed snot?

Sorry, I am surely one of the people who is not knowledgable on how to wear face masks and how to think about them. Although I think we deserve some slack, since our government had told us not to wear masks because it was dangerous and/or other people deserved/needed it more. Now of course we are told we have to wear them, and if we don't we are at risk of being fined and or jailed.

Aside from the legal issues, didn't the government have a moral responsibility to 1) Anticipate there might be a need for millions of masks 2)Stockpile them 3) Either hand them out or make sure they are available for sale at the largest retailers at least 4) As a matter of national security, ensure that enough masks could be made in the US if a surge need arose? Also, given all the money spent on FEMA, Cvil Defense, government continuity, isn't it reasonable to expect that maybe one of the experts or one of leaders brought this up at some point? Especially given the micro-management the government does manage to bring to many issues.

I liked the mask that had a ball gag painted on it.

The US Army biological warfare lab tested fabrics & determined the best commonly available was a fabric used for cleaning. It was estimated at 70% efficiency. The '95' mask come it at around 90% according to the bio lab spokesman quoted in the recent 'Military.COM article.

John, The masks worn by medical professionals offer just as much protection for them as it does for the patient.

Not so of what is only available for the general public. Medical Grade Masks are currently unavailable for public use. They have been mostly hoarded by the Feds as hospitals scramble to obtain enough for their needs. Read the fine print. Therefore, you are right on this one. Even that is questionable if you don't have access to the home made ones which offer no protection to the person wearing them as well.

Yes if the government wants to force we citizens to wear a mask they should be obligated to make those masks. The Gov can also set up a job program to get the many unemployed Americans to make Those masks

                    • Yes, your right...WRONG. Same reason surgeons wear mask when operating. To protect you from them.

                      • Face masks are slightly better than sneezing into your arm.

The most important thing is don't touch your face of for that matter your clothing, credit cards, hat, purse, keys or anything else that you carry with you until you wash your hands. The logistics are somewhat challenging :-)

Especially inside of a store where many people have handled everything before you have and no one is washing their hands. You could, of course, carry hand sanitizer with you if there were any available.

Or, you could do the sane, rational thing and STOP WORRYING ABOUT IT.

Unless you are elderly and/or have a damaged immune system the odds are on your side....virtually 100 %. The deaths occur among those with damaged immune systems, which includes the elderly.

YOU ARE BEING SYSTEMATICALLY LIED TO. STOP COWERING IN FEAR.

And while you are at it, start calling, e-mailing and harassing your governor and your state officials and DEMAND that adequate supplies of proper masks and hand sanitizer be made immediately available to the public, or that they give up theirs and share the same risks that you are told that you are.

If one million Americans die from this, that is still only 1/3 of one percent mortality.

Totally incorrect, unless you have COVID yourself. A mask will not protect anyone from something you haven't got in the first place, and if you do have it you should not be outside with others to begin with.

BTW, the latest research shows that anyone who has had a common cold has COVID antibodies in their system and will test positive for COVID. The viruses are related.

This is how all of this nonsense starts, with false statements that mean nothing but sound scary.

                                That is the point!

Because later studies showed that asymptomatic patients can infect others and be a driving force for the CV spread , the guidance for wearing masks changed. In essence, the idea is that people, including people who look perfectly healthy take precaution because they do NOT know if they are actually infected with CV or not. So, they wear a mask to protect others in case they are among those asymptomatic patients.
