Trump, and Pence as well, have no idea what they are talking about regarding health issues, specifically the coronavirus problem.

And in any case, if we really really had no inkling whatsoever, then making any claim would be wrong.
I agree with you on that one: there's simply not enough data currently available to determine whether COVID-19 is more or less virulent, lethal, or contagious than various strains of influenza. I expect that such a determination will be possible some months into the future -- as more data is collected, but for now, it is simply not possible.

Centers for Disease Control is a Federal agency, that cultivates working relationships with various state and local public health departments, university research laboratories, and private-sector health care providers and pharmaceutical developers. The idea is that if one smart brain is good, then thousands of smart brains are even better. Think of CDC as not merely a public health agency, but an information and data clearinghouse, and an enabler of joint research projects amongst disparate parties.

When dealing with new and previously unknown pathogens, such mistakes are not uncommon. That doesn't render public health agencies in the US incompetent or malfeasant, just human. As long as they show a capacity to learn from mistakes -- rather than a tendency to repeat them -- I think first-time fck-ups tolerable.

I can even tolerate Pres Trump's lack of awareness. What I can't tolerate is 1) if he remains unaware, and 2) his propensity to speak publicly, veritably boasting of his unawareness, when he'd be far better served keeping his piehole shut while he works to remedy his unawareness.

What would it cost Pres Trump to consult with a couple of experts before he speaks of these matters publicly? Wouldn't a five minute phone call suffice? In my humble opinion, it wouldn't cost him a thing, but rather, it would profit him immensely.

Trump argues 3.4% death rate from coronavirus is 'false,' citing a 'hunch' in claiming it's far lower

At this early point in America, the death rate is actually 7 per cent-- 158 reported cases, 11 deaths...

If you don't listen, then you won't see what the problems and issues are. That's what Trump's supporters do-ignore all of the gaffs, lies, etc. that come from Trump and his corrupt administration.

Actually, we find them slightly more tolerable than the similar, but worse, that we got from Obama and "the Ukraine owns me" Biden.

                            Yes they have.

But not the same strain and therefore irrelevant in this situation.

How much of a difference is there between the bovine virus and the human? Would it take only a tweak to develop the bovine vaccine for human use, or would the work be more substantial?
