  • Former Congressman Collins Goes to Jail

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...cid=spartandhp

Former Rep. Chris Collins was sentenced to two years and two months in federal prison Friday for insider trading crimes he committed, ending a legal process that evolved from the New York Republican calling the charges “meritless” shortly after he was indicted to him pleading guilty and proclaiming embarrassment for his actions.

Collins, who represented Western New York’s 27th Congressional District for seven years and was the first member of Congress to endorse Donald Trump for president, pleaded guilty on Oct. 1 to participating in a scheme to commit insider trading and lying to the FBI to conceal his illegal activity. He resigned from Congress the day before his guilty plea.

Sentencing guidelines prescribe Collins serve 46 to 57 months in federal prison, but the U.S. Probation Office recommended a lesser penalty: one year and one day in jail, a supervised release term, and a $200,000 fine.

Collins was a republican from my area. He apparently tipped off his son to some inside stock information netting him and his son hundreds of thousands of dollars. But recently Collins who was never an emotional man was very emotional in front of the judge asking for leniency. Collins was sentenced to 26 months in jail last evening.I recall just maybe a few months ago Collins was on Fox News talking about staying in the race for Congress and supporting Donald Trump. Now Collins is out of the picture he’s got a felony record for life and so will his son most likely.

He should have been a Democrat. He could have avoided justice...
