  • “If you come for the queen, you best not miss.”

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...cid=spartandhp

At the end of a heated exchange with a reporter Thursday morning, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) stared pointedly at the man who had asked her if she hates President Trump and uttered four words: “Don’t mess with me.”

Within minutes, the contentious moment — initiated by a question from Sinclair Broadcast Group reporter James Rosen — blew up social media. Soon, Pelosi’s terse declaration had inspired a trending hashtag, “#DontMessWithNancy.” Videos of her response racked up millions of views as many, including late-night comedians, reveled in what has been described as “a righteous smackdown.” By Thursday night, Pelosi’s team had also capitalized on the buzz, releasing a sweatshirt (yours for $39) featuring the biting message.

Much like Pelosi’s past brushes with viral fame, it didn’t take long for the Thursday moment to spark an intense debate over interpretations of the Democratic leader’s actions. In the eyes of her supporters, Pelosi had just delivered a powerful rebuke of a reporter whose question reflected a common GOP attack meant to cast doubt on Democrats’ intentions for pursuing impeachment. But for critics, the outburst was another example of Pelosi coming “unhinged,” or as Trump himself put it, having “a nervous fit.”
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.

Sounds like both sides are unhinged or horribly corrupt. It so reminds me of the last 100 years of the Roman Republic where naked ambition, greed and corruption had replaced the idea of duty and self sacrifice to the ideal. Political systems of all walks seem to have, like empires, a limited lifespan. All of them start with idealists, then the petty pen pusher bureaucrats take over, then the corrupt self servers... finally the strong say this has to change, and the downtrodden cheer them on. Rinse and repeat.

Democracy has had a good run, but I don't see it surviving another 200 years. Not because it is not a good system, but because it is a system. We are watching the days of silk slippers descending the stairs, and there isn't anything we can do about it It is not that we aren't smart, or self aware or wanting a better deal - we just cant. We are held hostage to what went before us.

I'll post a lecture below about why complex societies fail. Its an hour and a half, but I can honestly say I've never viewed history or the modern world the same since seeing it. I wish he was wrong, but I just cant fault it

(And for any Roman History buffs - the first third of it is worth watching as he uses that as a template for why every complex system has a useby date)

    That's right bitches. I'm blessed!

The problem in a Democracy that arises is when the people in it stop being owners with an economic stake in the outcome and become takers with an economic stake but no skin in the game instead. That is, owners who have property and wealth vote their interests, and those are generally to limit government and taxes so they can continue to prosper. Once you get an underclass of lazy takers who expect to be given a free ride and call for more and more taxes on those who do make wealth, democracy breaks down and eventually you end up with a Socialist state.

I have found the reaction to Nancy's outburst hilarious.
Had trump done the same thing we would have seen a dozen threads here of how he is attacking and threatening the press.
And it would have been proof he has lost his mind.
Nancy does it and she is celebrated.

I love such obvious and oblivious hypocrisy.

            1. There is already a thread on this, why start another one?

Watch Pelosi do the "common GOP attack" on the republicans before you come back with it's Fox or some other excuse.

Trump could never do the same thing. Pelosi has a history that links her to religion. Trump's history links him to naked female teenagers changing clothes while he is walking among them during his pageant contests. Can you imagine Trump saying that he is praying for any of his political opponents?
Nor couldTrump replicate Pelosi's tone. Her more intense (in this case) response is below the bottom of Trump's standard outbursts when he hears questions that he does not like them. When Pelosi decides to start tweets about journalists' menstrual period or revoking their pass come back to us.
