  • Mexican Police forced to release El Chapos son amid a gun battle

As many know The famous Mexican Drug Kingpin El Chapo is serving a life in prison term in the USA. But lesser known perhaps is that El Chapo has a son Ovidio Guzman Lopez that is also highly involved in the drug business and also wanted in the USA. Recently during a routine patrol a Mexican Police force was able to capture Lopez in Culiacan only to have to release Lopez amid a hail of gun fire from Drug cartel members. Its not a good morning for Mexico or the USA for that matter.

    Here is the link,

Heavy fighting broke out in northern Mexico after the security forces seized one of the sons of jailed drug kingpin Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán.

Fighting raged for several hours after Ovidio Guzmán López was found during a routine patrol in the city of Culiacán.

Footage showed heavily-armed men firing on police, with cars, bodies and burning barricades strewn in the road.

Police withdrew without Mr Guzmán in their custody to avoid further violence, officials said.

Always have been, and the Mexican government, along with Mexican law enforcement, is hopelessly corrupt.

Mexican officials say eight people were killed in gunbattles in the Sinaloa state capital of Culiacan in what is being described as a failed operation to detain the son of convicted Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán.

Federal security officials said in a news conference Friday that those killed include one civilian, one member of the National Guard, one prisoner and five attackers.

Officials said late Thursday that troops had come under fire from a house while on patrol and found Ovidio Guzmán López inside. But on Friday they said that it was an operation specifically intended to arrest him on a warrant issued by a judge for extradition to the United States.

Officials say they pulled back when heavily armed cartel gunmen unleashed torrents of gunfire across the city.

If this was a joint operation by the USA and Mexico then why did the USA not send in Marines, The CIA or the FBI or similar?

I agree, this isn't good for the US or Mexico.
I hadn't seen this, but it is further proof that Mexico is becoming (or is) a failed narco state.

What i learned in this story is that Mexico has LEO's that are willing to stand in a fire fight against the Cartel. Must be difficult in a country where the populace is convinced you personally are corrupt. Hope their families have security.
