  • Homelessness in California

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...cid=spartandhp

President Trump maligned the problem of homelessness in California as he arrived in the nation’s most populous state Tuesday, arguing that people living on the streets here have ruined the “prestige” of two of the state’s most populous cities and suggesting the possibility of federal action.

“We can’t let Los Angeles, San Francisco and numerous other cities destroy themselves by allowing what’s happening,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Silicon Valley, where he hosted a campaign fundraiser to kick off a two-day visit to California.

Under Trump’s direction, the administration has been eyeing sweeping unilateral action on homelessness, with top government officials from multiple agencies touring California this month to formulate a strategy. Housing Secretary Ben Carson was also visiting San Francisco on Tuesday, and had plans to discuss the issue.

It is unclear what legal authority the federal government has to clear the streets and how that might be accomplished, however.

California is controlled by Democrats and has become a bastion of resistance to Trump’s presidency. As he arrived here, Trump claimed that he had personally heard complaints from tenants in the state, some of them foreigners. He expressed sympathy for real estate investors here and other Californians whose property values or quality of life are threatened.

“In many cases, they came from other countries and they moved to Los Angeles or they moved to San Francisco because of the prestige of the city, and all of a sudden they have tents,” Trump said. “Hundreds and hundreds of tents and people living at the entrance to their office building. And they want to leave.”

In Los Angeles and San Francisco, Trump said, people are living on the “best highways, our best streets, our best entrances to buildings . . . where people in those buildings pay tremendous taxes, where they went to those locations because of the prestige.”

“The people of San Francisco are fed up, and the people of Los Angeles are fed up,” Trump said. “We’re looking at it, and we’ll be doing something about it.”

Administration officials have considered razing tent camps for the homeless, creating temporary facilities and refurbishing government facilities, according to two senior government officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

I say let those cities wallow in squalor if that's what they want. If you go of San Fran, make sure you get a "poop map" to avoid stepping in it...

    Talk about a "brown cloud!"

The homeless problem preceded Trump, it's been a problem in San Diego, L.A. , San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, for years, Why is it an issue now? Nobody gave a rat's back end from 2008 till 2016
Dispite our best intentions, the system is dysfunctional that intelligence failure is guaranteed.

How are there homeless people in CA? Isn't CA a huge welfare state? I was under the impression there are millions of people in CA that don't work and live off the government? Aren't these homeless people on the freebie train? Someone should tell these homeless people that you don't have to work, you can just get a $5000 check every month from the gubment!

That's the thing, the Trump admin has been rounding up people who are applying for asylum through the legal process.

Some homeless people chose to live on the streets when the only other option is shelters, or residences that cost more than they are willing or able to pay.
Given that the addicts like to save their money for their drug of choice, they have a smaller incentive to spend money on a home than most other people.

                    I've seen this in action.

That's why California is home to an estimated 1 in 3 homeless persons in the US. The next two states with the highest homeless populations are New York and Hawaii. All three are Democrat run. All three offer good welfare and other social programs.

One of the things that makes California popular with the homeless is that benefits like state welfare come with no strings attached. Another is that illegal immigrants are eligible for benefits in California and don't have to worry that they might get arrested and deported.

                          That is insane.
Plastic straws are bad, but plastic syringes must be subsidized?
                          Wow.

You didn't address what I asked. I hear all the time from conservatives that millions of Democrats don't have to work because they get a free ride on the government. Obviously these homeless people have never heard of free checks every month. I wonder why that is? Especially in CA?

It must be some secret government welfare plan setup just for brown people! They don't have to work, they get free rent and thousands to spend each month!

Well that much is obvious. But why aren't they getting a free check from the government each month? I hear conservatives all the time blame black/brown people for leeching off the system and not working. All for a free ride each month!
So why aren't the homeless on this same gubment plan getting thousands upon thousands each month?
What's the difference? Neither are working right?
