  • The Idiot Who Would Be King...

Trump is becoming both delusional and stupid:

    https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/22/opini...lon/index.html

'There are countries that have endured unhinged leaders before. I'm thinking of Britain during the reign of King George III, whose years of delusion were depicted in the 1994 film "The Madness of King George." Our current civic stress test in the United States is coming courtesy of a President whose narcissistic impulses seem to be getting worse. Two recent days crystallized those concerns.'
'Imagine any other president in our history looking toward the sky and proclaiming himself "the chosen one." That came Wednesday, hours after President Donald Trump retweeted conspiracy theorist Wayne Allyn Root, who stated "the Jewish people in Israel love him ... like he's the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God... ." Yes, that would be the president of the United States laying claim to the title "King of Israel" and the second coming of God, also known as the Messiah.'

'There is no universe where the President approving of comparisons of himself to the Messiah is not strange and disturbing.'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.

So, some Progressive named John Avlon writes an op ed for CNN. The guy's a thorough and through Progressive Leftist having written such previous screeds as Wingnuts: How the Lunatic Fringe is Hijacking America. He writes in his column quoted above:

This is particularly ironic in light of all of the self-styled constitutional conservatives who baselessly railed against President Barack Obama
as a socialist who would be "king."
Note the wording highlighted. The ad hominems just say it all.

He bashes Trump for his saying that he (Trump) could order companies not to do business with China. Yet, there are several laws in place that pretty much would allow Trump to do exactly that, starting with the Trading With the Enemy Act of 1917. Now, you might quibble about China being an "enemy," but it and several other laws that followed allow for Trump to make such an order as part of US foreign policy. It's really no different than the Cuba embargo for example.

Yet, Avlon goes off on an unfounded ad hominem laced rant against Trump by a Progressive Leftist mired in full-bore TDS.

The powers of the president have expanded in ways the founding fathers I'm sure did not intend. Congress has over the years abdicated many responsibilities. Transferring responsibility for the currency to the Federal Reserve, allowing courts to legislate from the bench, allowed bureaucrats to write law by way of the code of federal regulations, and forced presidents to govern by presidential proclamation. Both parties are guilty of ignoring the abuses when things are to their advantage.

No, Trump does not have the 'right' to order American businesses out of China or anywhere else. Are they breaking US law? Are they conspiring with the Chinese government to hurt the US. And China is not a declared enemy, though Trump is doing his awful best to make it that way.

Trump is not a dictator and he has to follow US law. He has a habit of trying to dodge or interfere with US law and it might turn around and bite him in the ass.

And it isn't 'quibbling.' All you're doing once again is giving yet another excuse for Trump. That is abominably horrifying.

There's more. So, while it might "bite him in the ass..." he does have the power to order it if he wants. I'm sure some Obama appointed judge or two will rule it illegal only to be overturned like 95%+ of their rulings against Trump have been.

This doesn't mean I agree with Trump. I think it'd be a really bad thing to do this. But, Trump has the legal standing to order it if he really wants to unlike your unsupported claims he doesn't.
