  • I once did the Great American Vacation. We drove to Los Angeles by way of Las Vegas. We were driving back and we had just crossed into Texas on I-10. I said "Look everybody! Only 682 miles to drive to reach Louisiana!" We slept in El Paso that night and drove home the next day. We drove around San Antonio as there was a theme park there that I did not want to stop at! We had a 13 year old and a 10 year old in the car. I worked at Rotor Aids in Intracoastal City and I remember a couple of guys from Wisconsin that drove there in one day to fly out to a rig. "We never slow down to 100 mph or less until we get to Mississippi!" There be crazy people out there..

Going by the NYT piece, the above is correct but if we dig a little deeper into it....it isn't so clear. This thread is about Trump's policy, from the article:

From March 2018 to July 2018, the agency received 859 complaints, the largest number of reports during any five-month span in the previous four years. Of those, 342 allegations were referred to the Justice Department, the report showed.

So we go from over 4,000 to 342 allegations referred. S/A, from my perspective, one allegation is one too many.

At the end of the article, this little tidbit comes up:

As Mr. Deutch read some of the report, Commander White interjected, “That is false!”

He later apologized, claiming that a “vast majority of allegations proved to be unfounded.” He said he was unaware of any accusations against staff members that were found to have merit.

The question now is how many represents a "vast majority" of 342?

Again, one is too many but there is really nothing concrete in this article.

We have heard that some children are brought up for sex traffic, some have been abused on the trip, some have been abused at the centers......I highly doubt it that any have been abused by the guards. From the type of reporting that the NYT did for this article, it would be just as easy to say that over 4000 where brought up for sex traffic, or over 4000 were abused on the trip up....

        Does that make sense?

Is it cruelty on the part of the government when US citizens (parents) are arrested for breaking the law?

CNN is playing a double standard here....again.

Regarding what will happen to the children:
              https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cla...amp/1947642001

Ultimately it comes down to don't break the law and you won't get arrested. The parents made a decision to break the law and by doing so they put their children at risk.[/QUOTE

No Reg, I used and quoted the numbers that the NYT reported in the article. You need to read past the first couple paragraphs to see the whole story.

                • The reason for existence for Trump supporters is to defend him at all costs no matter what and to defend what he does, whether or not (and it's usually not) what he does or the policies he enacts are both ethical and moral, not to mention legal.

Questioning bad reporting does not make one a Trump supporter. Using bad reported as 'proof' against Trump serves no point.

reporting is slanted in many on line sources against the powerless. for various psychological reasons, children will internalize abuse and not report it.

If you read left wing Canadian publications from before 1979, the few reports filtering out of The PRof china were disregarded as " you have to break a few eggs to make omelets." So every political faction has produced 'alternative truths" Its who's ox gets gored.."

Scooped up children are not crime committers, or escaped convicts. why don't they rate a modicum of care?

That doesn't explain why the snopes link...

They are receiving a "modicum" of care. Do you really think the US is setting up abuse centers for children?

Those who hate the U.S. will always believe the worst about it.
Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedy. -- Ernest Benn

it's the common practice for US citizens, have you ever protested these procedures before?
while I can see your point, electronic arrest leg bracelets are a lot less expensive way to track non violent flight risks.

BS. Demonizing and making false accusations against those with whom one disagrees is going against the Founders of the United States and the Constitution.

Perhaps the following two quotations should be taken to heart:

                                An appeal to reason:

                                'My Fellow Citizens,

The rise of this blusterous man bewilders the educated among us, conjoins opposing politicians, agonizes our international allies, threatens minorities, spits on the disabled, and touches the hearts of those who just don’t know any better.
Let us stop propounding how mad this all is, but instead, do something.

                                Lisolette Hubner
                                Germany, 1929'

‘The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or anyone else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else.’
                                -Theodore Roosevelt
