The new Marine 1 helicopter scorches the grass when it lands at the White House. This is Trump's fault...

The presidential helicopter isn’t supposed to leave scorch marks on the White House lawn. So the Navy and Lockheed Martin Corp. are working to fix a “high risk” problem after the new Marine One did just that in a test without the president on board.

The first in a $5 billion fleet of new Marine One helicopters is supposed to be ready to go into service by September 2020. President Donald Trump already has showcased the new aircraft with a flyover during his Fourth of July appearance in Washington

Never mind that the helicopter started development years before Trump was elected, let alone took office...

    But, it's "Trump's helicopter..."

Just another day of TDS insanity.

All of our TDS compatriots here will greet this news with manic joy...and they are many.

And now, on a practical note, Marine One should never have that great a heat signature directed downward, the direction from which a shoulder fired SAM is most likely to come. So yeah, it's a problem that should not be there in the first place, and it needs to fixed ASAP.

They could have put down a cement landing pad for a lot less money.

Big money in Turf management, I wonder how much the chief grounds keeper makes and what education certification you need?

All ribbing aside, MountainMan posits a very good question...

I admit my knowledge of helicopter design is very superficial. Is this an inherent, yet somewhat unavoidable trait for helicopters? Given their speed and limited choices in which the wash can be directed, is this something that must simply be accepted? How do they address it with the Apache or Blackhawk? Can anyone more knowledgeable give some insight?

According to the GAO report on this program, there are steps being taken to remediate this problem and others related to damage to the White House grounds. But, these are in line for being dealt with after the helicopter is in service. The expected timeframe is about 5 months after the helicopter begins operations.

Nah... The Department of Agriculture is probably studying (for tens of millions of dollars) how to grow fire proof grass...

No where does it say "Trump's helicopter". This is an example of TDS in the sense that it shows how Trump supporters will twist the news to create something petty to whine and cry about. You're just looking for every opportunity you can to play the victim card, this one was a huge reach, per usual.

Matthew 25:14-30. Jesus tells that it is not sufficient merely to maintain things as they are. Those who await should make good use of the gifts that God has provided them.
