  • Typhus and Bubonic Plague in "Progressive" California?

"The Triumph of Death" by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, painted c. 1562

Government officials are warning of the return of “medieval diseases” in California, particularly after the news spread that a Los Angeles deputy city attorney said she had contracted typhus, a centuries-old horrific disease usually spread by rats, within L.A.’s City Hall.
After attorney Elizabeth Greenwood caught typhus, an illness that causes extremely high fever, muscle aches, and headache, she sued the city of Los Angeles for $5 million.

California Governor Gavin Newsom said in his State of the State speech in February 2019 that there was a public health crisis, citing outbreaks of hepatitis A in San Diego County and typhus in Los Angeles County. “Typhus,” he said in his address. “A medieval disease. In California. In 2019.”

Typhus is contracted by being bitten by rats/lice/fleas infected with the disease. The disease has been around since medieval times.
What does progressive have to do with anything?

So there's no Tpyhus in conservative states like Texas? I read that 60 children out of 500 have contracted the disease in Texas.

So once again, what does progressive have to do with it?

'Bout time we get that wall built around Kalifornia, too, it seems.

You can toss in a rise in tuberculosis cases there too...

More than 2,000 people are diagnosed with TB disease in California every year, consistently making up over 20 percent of all cases diagnosed across the nation.
            https://patch.com/california/benicia...nty-california

In 2017, California’s annual TB incidence was 5.2 cases per 100,000 persons, which is nearly double the national incidence rate of 2.8.
            https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID...Sheet-2017.pdf

The biggest part of that is illegal immigration. An illegal with active TB crosses into the US and spreads it.

A thread that starts with Pieter Breughel, the elder, can't be wrong - I agree with everyone here

Even though the picture is badly cut.

Between the two plague epidemics that overtook the continent in recent years, and the clash between the Church traditionalists or Catholics and the Reformers, as well as the religious wars between Spain and Flanders, death was an everyday occurrence that people had to deal with.

The painting shows a landscape of death. The scenery is bleak and dead, with no life blooming in any form. There are fires burning in the background and an army of skeletons are taking apart everything.
Another thing of interest is the fact that the painting shows daily life scenes and objects such as playing cards and a mechanical clock.

Their support of allowing illegal immigrants to pour across the southern border. Illegals that come from Central American and African hell holes where those diseases are out of control due to the poverty those people have lived in.

I will even use a popular Progressive Fake News Source to prove the point even though the source sugar coats it with a childhood disease from the 50s.

Typhus occurs in California, Texas, and Hawaii and usually occurs about 300 times a year. And it is not a 'progressive' problem, it is a disease that has not been eradicated. To blame it on illegals from Central America is not only wrong, it is 'fake news.'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.

You are right again. There's nothing progressive about Progressives.

Whether it's California or Texas, most of these outbreaks happen in big cities. All the big cities are ruin by Democrats.

Everything. It was brought here by illegals, along with a lot of active tuberculosis, syphilis, many types of STD's not seen here and a host of other diseases. And before you challenge me, I was a medical officer in the ICE detention facility in Denver for six years and I saw all of this and more and treated them over and over again.

Health care in that part of the world is almost non-existent.

So instead of "progressive" say "Democrat" and "sanctuary" cities.

California has a problem with so many homeless people, some entire families living on the streets, along street beds, in cardboard makeshift structures and in vehicles lacking sanitation facilities and that increases the chance of catching illnesses that were once thought to be eliminated.
The problem has gotten so bad that police ha e been told to stop citing people for living in their vehicles in residential areas.
Some of the homeless are actually employed but just can't afford rent in the market they work in. San Francisco , Portland and Seattle are experiencing the same challenge.
Hepatitis A cases in San Diego have been declared to be epidemic levels.
This is not an opinion nor am I blaming the homeless people for the situation.
Along the San Diego river in Hotel Circle there was until a year ago an entire makeshift village with an estimated population approaching 1K. The mayor had city crews clean them out. One lady in her 70s lived with her 12 cats in a tarp covered encampment.
High rents, the advent of VRBO and the like have driven those on fixed incomes on to the streets.

Of course big cities are progressive. Due to policies that's where wealth concentrates. Then you have rural areas that don't contribute much at all.
