He's a visiting head of state. Why wouldn't he? We do it for them.

The only Communists that would want to sabotage this is the ones that live in the USA.

Meanwhile, the N'orks are removing land-mines at the DMZ.
( I love that word, N'orks. I'm gonna keep using it no matter how this turns out)

I agree. Vietnam never really wanted the US as an enemy. They wanted the French out, then the Japanese, then the French. The only thing that got the US involved was in the 60's we, well everybody, saw Communism as a monolithic thing. But Vietnamese Communists really weren't in lockstep with Moscow or Beijing. If anything, they accepted their help but weren't about to become their puppets either. Ho Chi Mein and the other leadership had enough of that with French colonialism and Japanese oppression. Ho and some others, like Giap, actually came to the US during WW 2 to try and get America to back their push for independence offering to resist the Japanese if armed on the condition that France didn't get Indochina back as a colony.

            The US blew them off.

Today, I think most of the animosity is gone and Vietnam would like the US to be friendly rather than an adversary.
