This may be commonly known, but I will share it anyway.
The book “Flyboys” recounts the fates of a number of US pilots shot down near Iwo Jima and how some were captured and eaten by the Japanese garrison.
One of the pilots who was shot down off the island was saved by a US submarine as the Japanese were coming out to fish him from the water.
    That pilot was GHW Bush.
Had the sub not arrived in time, Bush would have likely have been executed and possibly eaten.
Avatar is General Gerard, courtesy of Zouave.

Churchill to Chamberlain: you had a choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war.

This is an outstanding tribute both to President Bush and his service dog.

We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.

President George H. W. Bush was our last president who was a veteran of WW2. As part of that 'greatest generation' he exhibited a regard for the ideals of his day, namely a sense of pride of country, a sense of fair play, a sense of duty, a sense of modesty, honesty and high etiquette. These attributes are glaringly deficient in today's society.

Which is why I have always felt that presidents and other top officials should be veterans. If nothing else, a veteran understands what it means to order others to their deaths for a meaningless objective.

No reason whatsoever to do that. There is plenty of room aboard AF1 to carry a casket.

Many have been vets but in name only. Ford, Nixon, Bush II, Ronnie, Carter but none even made it to a combat zone. IMO their service in the content of your post didn't mean ****. When they have heard the noise and screams and see the mangled body's then and only then does their service worth taken in to consideration.

How many other World leaders have served their country's in the military? Not many

Why should you care? You're not even living here.

Isn't is interesting how the Fake News Media, that same media that said such awful things about Bush 41 during his Presidency and all these years after when he became one of their most hated Presidents in history, are now remaining silent as they report daily stories of tributes to the deceased Bush as he goes through the formal process of being laid to rest. Stories such as those showing President Bush 41 reaching across the aisles to foster cooperation among the opposition and others that have never been made public before that place Bush in such a positive light. The way and timing of presenting those stories are SO Fake. These are the people that dressed in black the day after Bush was declared the winner of the 2000 Presidential Race.
