A thoughtful piece. It is also prevalent among the Trump supporters on this forum. What are you so afraid of?

A thoughtful piece from Carol Swain, the big question is why is the MSN trying to rewrite history?

Might ask why the Democrat party is run by bigots and racists... Openly bigoted racists. Not some claim of embracing others who are... Keith Ellison and Thomas Perez are bigots and racists. They run the DNC. They were elected to those positions by Democrats. You can toss in all the Democrats in Congress that are bigots, haters, racists, as well. If there's a party that's openly racist its the Democrats.

FWIW, I've yet to meet a republican who isn't racist. These aren't the burning crosses and being violent type of racist, but they are 'I don't want you in my neighborhood' (pro segregation) or, 'don't want my daughter dating coloreds' type racist. Even though some of them might be friendly towards blacks they all feel whites are a cut above everyone else.

You live in one of the bluest counties in PA, chances are the racist that you are meeting are democrats.

Perhaps what Republicans are worried about is that minorities will continue to suffer under the "benevolence" of Democratic policies. The question of who is more racist is muted by the facts on the ground.

The idea that republicans are afraid of minorities because of racism ignores the fact that minorities are afraid of republicans because of policy and that they vote accordingly. The logical extension of Massena's argument is that the republicans can only prove they are not racist by adopting the same policies as the Democrats removing any ability to distinguish between the parties.

It would be easy to ignore the practical consequences of racism and only argue from idealism. Proving that Republicans are more racist doesn't prove that minorities would be better off under Democrats. Making the claim that every problem that minorities face is a result of politics is in itself counter productive to ending racism. There are no legal barriers remaining after the civil rights act. Legislation that had more Republican support than Democrat. Of course changes in demographic support mutes the argument that the Republicans are less racist but that is not the point. The point is that you have to look at policy not demographics to determine which party holds the best prospects for minorities.

The real problem today is more white guilt than racism because it is patronizing towards minorities perpetuating not ending racism by demoralizing them quietly. It is only when we can discuss the issues in minority communities openly without fear of being labeled that racism can end.

"What shall we do with the Negro?" I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with
us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are worm eaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! I am not for tying or fastening them on the tree in any way, except by nature's plan, and if they will not stay there, let them fall. And if the Negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone!"

I spent a lot of time in Moon and New Alexandria which is majority republican. Anyway, when you get to know people it's pretty easy to figure out where they stand.

Hey guys, the election cycle is over.
You can stop spamming the board with flame-bait now.

But if you really want to get into it, shall we go into how Democrat leaders tried to tell Black leaders that Slavery was a good thing for the Blacks. It was all about cradle-to-grave care ... and pointed to European Socialism to prove their case.
                  Shall we go there, too?

There are racists in both US parties, no doubt.

Where the Democrats have totally failed is to alienate Straight, Christian, White Men. Unfortunately, by pandering to all the minorities, a huge chunk of the electorate are completely alienated, close to half in fact. This is a major reason why Trump won.

Being a Straight, White Male does not make you any more or less automatically racist than anyone else. Being a Christian makes you less likely to be racist. For example, King David, that dude with a sling, married a black woman, Queen Bathsheba, who gave us Solomon, and the family line that led to Jesus. All Christians know this, and that skin colour will not make you closer to God. It often appears Democrats have forgotten this. They just see that White Men are in power, and thus White Men are the enemy. Most White Men are not the enemy, just regular dudes.
