It may be difficult for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven but it seems to be much easier for one to get into Congress (or over here Parliament)
Human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe (H G Wells)
Mit der Dummheit kaempfen Goetter selbst vergebens (Friedrich von Schiller)

National-level politics has always been an expensive hobby. Either you are rich, or you find sponsors. The Founding fathers tended to be men of considerable means.
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.
