  • The Pax Trumpana

Are we currently living in a Pax Trumpana? The economy is booming, North Korea has stopped firing missles and has destroyed its test sites, Russia is no longer invading countries, and we haven't had a terrorist attack since Trump took office. God bless. Right now, Trump's working out a tariff deal with China, which is a fair fight as far as I'm concerned. The left is crying about his tweets and Carter Page's speech in Russia, but that just shows how good we have it. It reminds me of the paragraph in Gibbon's The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire where the Romans are complaining about gnats.

Just 4 years ago we had to worry about terrorist attacks, race riots, and losing more money. God bless.

Terrorist attacks have not stopped, slowed down but...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terror...2%80%93present

Seems that what's on the net many farmers are not happy with the tariffs and some had to rely on socialistic hand out to cover losses.

It is good. The America-haters are whining, NATO may actually start puling something close to their weight, Israel is secure...good news is easy to come by. Nearly all of Bobos attacks on the USA have been undone. Times are indeed good.
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.

What a crock of BS. Keep thinking this and when it does all go to **** we'll see what you have to say.
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.

The economy has been booming for many years, didn't you know that? Same with the stock market. If anything the economy is starting to slow with the corporate tax cut introduced by republicans. You'll notice the middle class got nothing in that deal. Donald is taking credit for a single quarter growth of 4.2%? Obama had higher #'s.
4 years ago you had to worry about terrorist attacks, race riots and losing more money? But now those things are all silent on the RW media front? Don't you see they fabricate things to make your lives a living hell?
It's almost like since RW media doesn't choose to create stories on those things these days, you notice they've vanished?

He's dreaming as he usually does. His postings are almost as unreliable as Trump's tweets.

Yes you do, and it's based in the US running away from world politics and opting for make-belive about what's going on and what it signifies.

Effectively as long as Trump's US isn't attacked directly it will deny anything bad is happening.

While that goes on the US-led system of alliances, multilateral treatises and systems of negotiation will wither and drop off from the US. (At best some of the will be picked up and carried on elsewhere, sans the US.) Pax Trumpana could be the start of a long US retreat from the world. The US is still rich an powerful enough to largely screen away or drown out unwanted information about its actual status. It's how you go isolationist.

There is nothing wrong with a certain dose of isolationism, this is always better than to intervene in the business of other countries .

You sound like you're almost praying for it. Fortunately you haven't exactly been an oracle on this forum. The number of times TDSers have predicted disaster and been wrong.....you'd be more accurate if you read goat entrails instead of CNN.

The logic core of a TDSer:

Trump gets out of bed and does something: Predict End of World

If world does not end: say it hasn't ended YET.

If world still does not end: keep insisting it will.

If world STILL does not end: praise Obama and say it was his doing.
A new life awaits you in the off world colonies; the chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure!

The Pax Trumpana exists in the minds of his voters and followers because it's what they want. Like already said: you are currently rich enough to believe whatever you want. The rest of us live in the real world(sans the other side of America).

I voted for Trump because Pax America is coming to an end. The traditional wisdom does not apply during these times of change and conservative policies are generally the wrong ones. Obama and Clinton more or less believed in the conventional wisdom with the exception that Obama was happy to let American hegemony slip away quietly. Problem being that during these transitions instability increases and weaknesses encourages aggression. Trump is absolutely right that our "allies" must shoulder greater responsibility, being seen as a bit crazy is a good deterrent, trade cannot be divorced from military authority, manufacturing is critical to security, some degree of isolationism is required to shock allies out of complacency, China not Russia is the real threat, Iran is a theocracy and you can't negotiate with a fundamentalist ideology, Israel is a key to Middle East stability, Iraq was a poorly conceived and executed war, the real Russian collusion is Germany's energy deals with Russia, I could go on but you get the idea.

If you really want to understand Trump you should listen to Scott Adams. I don't agree with Adams on much of anything other than Trump but he is probably the only person I have heard talk that understands Trump the persuader.

Another crock of ****. What you should understand regarding Trump is that he is a habitual liar (the Fact Checker at the Washington Post as of yesterday has him 'misrepresenting' facts 5,001 times since inauguration). Further, he wants to dismantle the US security apparatus that has kept the general peace since 1945. And Trump overlooks the fact that our allies stood with us after 9/11 and sent troops to Afghanistan, including the Germans. Trump doesn't understand basic economics, how a government should be run, and foreign policy. His administration is in chaos and Trump himself denigrates US institutions that have kept us as we are.

Trump is not a 'persuader.' He is a liar, bully, and is petty in the extreme. He makes fun of and attacks anyone who does not agree with him and he plays fast and loose with US security. He is a loser.
