How do we pay for any of those 30 or so economy's?

I think his simple "logic" is that these other countries have good economies because they can spend their money on stuff other than defense because we protect them...but I could be wrong.

That's why Canada doesn't spend what we need to on defense because if we ever did get invaded the US would definitely get involved that's been the attitude in government since our beginnings.

You are wrong, from many different viewpoints(except it being "simple logic"). The first being that apart from South Korea you are not protecting anyone. It seems to be a popular opinion ever since Trump got elected that US army has become a socialist toll(or tool) in the hands of European countries, but that opinion ignores everything about the real world.

Secondly, USA is spending ridiculous amounts of money on military, other countries not doing this doesn't mean they are slacking off. Perhaps it just means that you military-industrial complex is out of control?

Thirdly, Russia is not gonna overrun Europe. Get that cold war propaganda out of your head and enter the modern realities.

ourthly, there are plenty of countries outside NATO that have managed to run successful economics with similar models as those you assume are leeching off USA.

Fifthly, I still haven't seen a single clear number of what you are actually paying for, other than your own army. You have military bases where you have because it serves your interests. If you want to give those interests up then do so.

Oh, and given the number of US forces in Europe how exactly are they protecting the whole continent? Finland alone surpasses the number of US military personnel, so does that mean we are protecting Europe? We are not even in NATO, so perhaps you should start paying us for doing your job?

Lastly, USA is the sole superpower of the moment, they can afford to keep a wartime economy running to support their army. Other countries cannot afford that unless they are in a war.

No, I am not wrong. That was not my opinion, I was merely saying what I thought that A87's thought process was. I don't agree with it in the least.

Ah yeah, my apologies. I think I am starting to developed dyslexia at my late age, or perhaps I just don®'t pay attention to anything anymore.

In this conversation, one should recall the example of Finland. The Finnish are "socialists" with high government expenditures to have a very strong public safety net, public healthcare and education. They are also bordering Russia (against which they have fought repeatedly), and they are NOT a NATO member. They do not spend (as a percentage of their GDP) the amount of money the US spends, and this is not because they feel the Americans will protect them. It is because they see modern realities.

According to the following link Finland uses 1.4% of its GDP for its defense. Perhaps a Finnish poster can give more information

My most dangerous mission: I landed in the middle of an enemy tank battalion and I immediately, started spraying bullets killing everybody around me having fun up until my computer froze...

That's funny, because we're expecting you to defend our northern borders.
