I cannot tell if we are on the eve of civil war or a revolution. There is also the breakdown in trust and commitment to our constitution government. In either case, we have crossed a bridge that we are burning.

It's the rise of the Left. Obama's election gave the Left a shot in the arm to be more aggressive in public. We are seeing the fallout of that now. It was worse in the 60's and we got over that. At least this time, the President (Obama) was a lazy, pseudo-intellectual of no particular merit other than being able to win elections. The damage was far less than LBJ and The Great Society or FDR's New Deal. There was not great expansion of the welfare state and socialism because Obama, unlike LBJ and FDR was / is a mediocre politician, bureaucrat, and leader. What he was good at was rhetorical vapidness.

        In a word, no.

What we are seeing is a meltdown of the left that is severely embarrassing the moderates in the DNC, destroying the faint vestiges of media credibility, and unifying the conservatives.

I agree with TAG in many ways: despite being a remarkably ineffectual POTUS, Bobo make the left feel like they were in charge, even while the GOP took Congress and a record number of state governments.

Trump's win shattered that illusion; thanks to inaccurate polls and Bobo's sober pronouncements Trump achieved a blind side win that still echos.

What I hope to see is the DNC splintering off more radical factions if the 'blue wave' fails to materialize, as the professional politicians look to their own careers.

And as happned after the 60s, the radical politics groups will simply fade away as the diehards lose hope and belief.

Politics goes to the patient, and these days the left is anything but.

Civil War/Revolution?? Certainly not in the classical sense...at least not yet. Cultural war...yes, and heavily so. The question right now is, how long - or perhaps what event - would be required for a people to actually begin chasing each other down in the streets and bludgeoning them on a widespread and regular basis?

Personally, I think it's a bit paranoia-talk, but IMO, a sure way to avoid any kind of violence despite very depp fundamental differences which cannot be reconciled under any circumstances - is to have a mutually agreed divorce. California has been in the news a lot recently regarding such a move - if not possible, then at least desired...how long before it spreads to other areas of the US which cannot identify with another part of the country.

One thing is certain, something -somewhere, will snap if this continues.

If this keeps up, not for long.

I've been saying so for some time now. Nice to see some others finally seeing it too.

No. This is nothing but hot air, just like the conservatives did for the 8 years of the Obama presidency. All the good ole boys talked about it but couldn't put down their beer and get up out of the recliner.

Which "old boys" talked about it, exactly? I never knew anyone speaking outright about starting a civil war during Obama's reign. I also never read about or saw conservatives acting with such hostility that some/many leftists are doing today.

I have to disagree with you there, there is no comparison to what happened under Obama to what is happening now.

Ted Nugent has made numerous threats and comments about Obama.

And before you say he is a fringe figure he is on the NRA board and Mitt Romney SOUGHT his endorsement in 2012.

I remember MM talking about getting on roof tops and killing people during the Obama era. Other conservative members mentioned that if certain things came to fruition it would be their last straw. Multiple states started petitions to secede when Obama was reelected. Anti-government militias spiked to all-time highs. etc etc.

What's interesting now is the role Russia is playing as they're actively working to tear this country apart from the inside out. Particularly with their BLM and white supremacy bots both spreading fake news that Americans are buying into. As one recent example Russia was photoshopping pictures of white people to claim they were assaulted by blacks at the Black Panther movie. There were a lot of people who saw these fake stories being circulated by Russia and their response was that they wanted to kill or harass blacks in retaliation.

I don't think any of this is going to blow over. Why would it? I was reading this article earlier today:

Do you think that being asked to leave a restaurant, or having your meal interrupted, or being called by the public is bad? My fascism-enabling friends, this is only the beginning.

This is all going to get more extreme. And it should. We are living in extreme times. The harm that is being done to all of us by the people in the American government is extreme. To imagine that Mexican immigrants should happily cook for and serve meals to people who enable a man who is determined to demonize and persecute them as subhuman criminals is far more outrageous than the idea that those enablers should not be served in restaurants. I do not believe that Trump administration officials should be able to live their lives in peace and affluence while they inflict serious harms on large portions of the American population. Not being able to go to restaurants and attend parties and be celebrated is just the minimum baseline here. These people, who are pushing America merrily down the road to fascism and white nationalism, are delusional if they do not think that the backlash is going to get much worse. Wait until the recession comes. Wait until Trump starts a war. Wait until the racism this administration is stoking begins to explode into violence more frequently. Read a ****ing history book. Read a recent history book. The U.S. had thousands of domestic bombings per year in the early 1970s. This is what happens when citizens decide en masse that their political system is corrupt, racist, and unresponsive. The people out of power have only just begun to flex their dissatisfaction. The day will come, sooner that you all think, when Trump administration officials will look back fondly on the time when all they had to worry about was getting hollered at at a Mexican restaurant. When you aggressively **** with people’s lives, you should not be surprised when they decide to **** with yours.

Strong words. This all reminds me of predictions that were made maybe 15 years ago that America would soon fragment into multiple countries. Back then that seemed like an unrealistic and scary thought. Today however, why not... Life is too short to constantly fight against people you'll never see eye to eye with.

You are absolutely correct. Trump and his demagoguery, continuous insults to all and sundry have driven the country apart. The president should be a uniter, not a divider, and Trump has failed miserably.

He is Putin's butt-boy and cozies up to the nation's enemies and turns on its allies. He is inept, dishonest, and cares only for what he can get out of it.

Which other US president's administration in history was the subject/target of a criminal investigation from day one of the presidency?
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will

                              Fixed that for you.

In the USA everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. You can't seem to grasp that, but it is still the law.
