In 2015 there were 772 drug overdose deaths among people aged 15 to 19.

In 2015, 2,333 teens in the United States ages 1619 were killed and 221,313 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes. Distraction played a role in nearly six out of 10 teen crashes making the smart phone more deadly than guns. 60 percent of teen drivers killed in a crash were not wearing a safety belt. Speeding is involved in 30 percent of fatal crashes involving teen drivers.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death among persons aged 10-14, the second among persons aged 15-34 years. More teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease, combined.

The question becomes why are people so focused on guns which are constitutionally protected (in theory) from government control than all the other preventable causes of death in teenagers. I think it is pretty clear that it is because many people think guns are unnecessary, owned primarily by "deplorables", a problem for which there is a easy solution and gun violence is sensational.

All of these teenage problems have one thing in common and that is bad parenting. What we need is to licence parenting not guns These school shooting are tragic but fall under the cost of freedom. Considering the recent revelations on the FBI's and NSA's abuse of surveillance how much more freedom are people willing to exchange for security.

I found another thing in common but I won't go there.

Would love to see you talk about more frequent causes of death next time one of the millions of Muslims here decides to kill someone.

No bad ideas should be protected from criticism. That said Muslim terrorist attacks and school shootings have one thing in common, they are less likely to happen in a police state.

We are far past criticism when we start discussing genocide.

A police state doesn't solve anything.

They need to commit these weirdos before they do anything crazy. The students predicted he would shoot up the school.

You're also a very small country compared to us.

Lots of x factors to consider with crime. Per capita. Violence in general (gun control Scotland still has a spectacular murder rate compared to her neighbors, it's just not gun based).

Anybody looking for a simple easy to define target to pin all their blame on is barking up the wrong tree. It is rarely that simple in any circumstance.

Different cultures probably the biggest x factor.

Nope. Old beliefs rejected with the gaining of wisdom. Those words were mine, I own it, but I have renounced them.

Apples and oranges, gun violence was relatively rare in Britain prior to draconian gun regulation. In addition as a constitutional monarchy the government of Britain does not require the protection of an armed citizenry as does a republic.

Despite historical events that seem to contradict this observation the kind of Republic that the US has is more susceptible to government take overs than governments elsewhere in the world I would argue that it is. In addition the US preserved the rights of the states after forming a Union in ways other nations did not influencing the relative need for local militias. The decision to maintain a week central government and state militaries undoubtedly contributed to the US civil war. That civil war may have negated the states rights issue to a large degree but it did nothing to address the overreach of the federal government two problems never addressed by constitutional convention. The most important point remains that the US has never and it was never intended that it have the kind of social fabric common in other nations. The US by design is a hodgepodge of ethnic and regional disparities. While those intentional disparities make it more likely that a disorderly social fabric will create conditions where disillusioned individuals will strike out randomly and violently because of nihilism and resentment it also makes it unlikely that someone like Hitler will ever come to power.
