I actually use recycled straws, and seriously, if I did not know they were recycled, I would not know the difference. When at first tried to find a recycled straw I first encountered the ones of older design based on hard paper which could dissolve after some time. The ones I get now are much superior to the older design, and as I said they behave, look and feel lie they are plastic.

    This is what I get

Actually, governments and their constant need to spin the truth to fit the moment is the "new insanity". False news is merely a symptom of that mass derangement.

Starbucks' Straw Ban Won't Help The Planet, But Will Hurt The Disabled
    <<Snip>>
    Discriminating Against The Disabled

But while Starbucks' ban will do nothing for the environment, it will bring harm to the disabled community, who have been speaking out more aggressively against straw bans.

"Plastic straws are an accessible way for people with certain disabilities to consume food and drinks, and it seems the blanket bans are not taking into account that they need straws and also that plastic straw replacements are not accessible to people." Katherine Carroll, policy analyst at the Rochester, New York-based Center for Disability Rights, told Time magazine.

Karin Hitselberger, a disability advocate in Washington, D.C., writes in the Washington Post that she and other "people with a huge range of disabilities depend on plastic straws to access beverages and the very water they need to survive: cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis, among many others."

"For so many people with disabilities," she goes on, "something as mundane as a straw represents independence and freedom. And the conversation around their environmental impact, without consideration of who uses straws and why, demonstrates how people with disabilities are often forgotten."

I remember when you could buy paper straws. Maybe we will see a return to them?

Hmm, I sense a huge ADA lawsuit coming. If for say a disabled person needs a straw to drink and now is refused accommodation for their disability... How progressive...

    Here it is...

    Sippers, beware.

A California coastal city has become the latest municipality to ban plastic straws, enacting what is potentially the strictest plastic prohibition in the country.

Santa Barbara earlier this month passed the ordinance authorizing hefty fines and even a possible jail sentence for violators who dole out plastic straws at restaurants, bars and other food establishments.
