  • Trump in Davos

Pleasantly surprised with how Trump was received in Davos. They treated him like a rock star. He got many CEO's to commit to investing in America, that was very impressive.

"There are companies all around the world who are looking at the U.S. now and saying, 'This is the place to be in the developed world,' " said Blackstone (BX) co-founder Stephen Schwarzman, who chaired Trump's economic advisory panel until it was dissolved in August after a series of resignations.
"There are going to be a lot of flows into the United States," he added.
The changes drop the corporate tax rate to 21% from 35%, and encourage American companies to bring overseas cash back home.
Credit Suisse (CS) CEO Tidjane Thiam said that businesses will now look to do more deals in the U.S.
"Tax reform in the U.S. has been exactly what we needed ... to give a new impetus to world growth," he said. "I do believe that the positive impacts of that are underestimated."
He cited the recent $3 billion purchase of Nestle's (NSRGY) U.S. candy brands by Italian firm Ferrero as a prime example.
"There's a whole pipeline of similar transactions building," said Thiam.

"Hi, I'm here to represent a country that's rich, powerful, has a huge consumer market, and just lowered taxes on business. Oh, and I also started using tariffs against countries that want to screw with us financially through various shady trade practices. Would you like to talk to me, or join all the little socialist paradises with WAAAY less purchasing power and higher business taxes in snubbing me?"

      Umm.....duh?

What's surprising about Trump being well received by the financial elite?

It's the global Progressives of the Left and the Greenie / Environmental loon front that doesn't want to talk to him.

Yeah but this was a group of execs and bankers. The OP said he was surprised by his reception there. Trump has and will continue to help the 1%, so it isn't shocking that he was well received by them.

I'm surprised Trump was never invited to attend the economic forum in Davos as a billionaire businessman.

Trump's business buddy, George Soros, was also at the event btw.

What I found interesting is that he called out Facebook and Google.

Billionaire hedge fund manager George Soros slammed Facebook (FB) and Google (GOOGL), two companies he’s invested in recently, noting that “the rise and monopolistic behavior” of tech platform companies has become a “global problem.”

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Soros, called out Facebook and Google for “exploiting” social environments and causing “a variety of problems.” He even suggested that the companies could be tempted to “compromise themselves” to gain access to markets such as Russia and China.

“The owners of the platform giants consider themselves the masters of the universe, but in fact they are slaves to preserving their dominant position. It is only a matter of time before the global dominance of the US IT monopolies is broken, Soros said. “Davos is a good place to announce that their days are numbered. Regulation and taxation will be their undoing, and EU Competition Commissioner Vestager will be their nemesis.”

Soros, 87, believes one of the critical problems these networks cause is their ability to influence how people think and behave, often without them even being aware of it. “This has far-reaching adverse consequences on the functioning of democracy, particularly on the integrity of elections,” he added.

The same argument republicans have been making.
