  • Impending Government Shutdown

What are your thoughts on this?

Should Trump stand firm and allow the government to shut down or should he fold and allow Democrats to bully him into accepting DACA on their terms?

Trump should meet the Democrats halfway and agree on a watered-down version of DACA. I want to see him try to prevent a shutdown.

I think that the Republicans should show some leadership and ram a budget through. They control both houses of Congress and the Presidency, and can't get anything done.

Elections have consequences, and the Dems lost.
They have continued to lose, and lie, and lie some more.

DACA was kaka enacted not by congress, but by a stroke of Obama's pen.
That means the next President's pen can overwrite it.

And if the Dems want to take responsibility ... oh, wait, they never do. They will just spin it so that it looks like somebody else's fault, again, same as always.
But they sure would claim a victory if they get their way.
Trying to have it both ways, in other words.

        Don't fall for it.

^THIS! The Dems are totally incapable of compromise. Just get on with it while you can finally.

Trump should make it clear that the day-to-day functioning of government isn't part of DACA and the Democrats are being the party of "NO!" here. If they want a government shutdown, Trump should let them have it.

In the past, it's always been the Democrats railing that it's the Republicans who let the government shutdown. This time the shoe is on the other foot.

And, yes, I agree that the Republicans control Congress and should ram their budget through regardless. It's their inability to herd cats it seems that is causing most of the problems.

I'm not sure Trump could afford a shutdown. If it was anyone else, it wouldn't be as much of an issue. Secondly, he already backed himself into a bad position. There's nothing wrong with axing daca on the basis of bad policy, except his stated reason is now because someone leaked what he said in a private meeting. If government shuts down over someone telling the press what he said, it's not going to look good for Trump.

Except, it's Congress not Trump responsible for the looming shutdown. Spending bills originate in the House, have to be passed by the Senate, and are then sent to the President for approval. The problem is congressional Democrats don't want to compromise on anything. They want what they want and nobody an nothing will stand in their way. Thus it is a Congressional problem, Republicans first for not being able to agree among themselves on anything, and Democrats second for being a bunch of myopic, obstinate, aholes who refuse to compromise on anything.

The Republicans don't have 60, they need a couple of Democrats to use their brains and do the right thing.

Trump should declare that DACA is an Executive Overreach, have a suit filed by any one of a hundred watchdog groups and immediately settled by the government (Solicitor General) that DACA is an executive overreach, then demand that if the Democrats want to shutdown the government, they could at least come up with a piece of legislation first......

So, what you are saying is the Democrats are blocking the passing of a Federal Budget... and making this mess a permanent way of life in DC.

I wish everyone was saying that.

A big part of the problem is that there's no deal on daca and there's no deal because someone hurt Trump's feelings. The blame would go on Trump.

Be sure to expose the Democrats for what they are fighting for in this bill, things totally unpopular with the general public.

Let the government shut down if need be.

It serves to remind everyone how little the swollen Federal bureaucracy actually does.
