We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.

Tends to buck both parties honestly. He's also my representative. I will say this for him, he shows up to work. Got some help from him on a big VA problem I had a few years back.....he was in his office doing actual work on Black Friday.

He's not just a RINO. He's Mother Jones' favorite RINO.

But he does appear to have a serious primary challenger...
Scott Dacey taking on longtime congressman for GOP nomination

District 4 County Commissioner Scott Dacey has decided to throw his hat into a much bigger ring, challenging incumbent Walter B. Jones for a seat in the 116th Congress in 2018.

        [...]

As to supporting President Donald Trump’s agenda, he said, “Let me make a distinction here: there are going to be times when I have got concerns about President Trump. But his agenda, what he’s trying to accomplish? I’m in line with it. His desire to move this country forward and expand the economy is absolutely critical to the future of America.”

        [...]

He argued that Jones has not been a strong supporter of Trump’s agenda. “Jones has voted against repealing Obamacare,” he said. In reference to Jones’ reputation as being a strong supporter of the military in a district heavily influenced by its two key military bases, he charged that Jones has not been as supportive as some might suppose. “Jones voted against the defense appropriations bill adopted by congress earlier this year,” he said.

        [...]

He said one key to defeating Jones will be to “educated the public to what Mr. Jones’ voting record has been.”

Trump won NC03 by a massive margin and Jones' voting record is out of step with the district's support for Trump.

Dacy is already ahead of Jones in fundraising...
Candidate Receipts Disbursements Cash on hand
        Scott Dacey $168,027 $18,408 $149,619
        Walter Jones $155,339 $145,838 $114,645

I've had my differences with Jones in the past, but he is doing rather well lately. Good for him.

Actually, Trump was independent since the GOP refused to back him, IIRC.

He ran on the GOP ticket, whether the GOP got cold feet....it doesn't matter. He wasn't an independent.

Before 2008 the primary benefactors of his money were Democrats.
