  • African American Voters Made Doug Jones a U.S. Senator in Alabama

A credit to Doug Jones having good character is partly why Jones won the Senator election in Alabama. At the same time , Moore was not only noted for his alleged sexual deviances with minors, but also for controversial views wrt slavery and so called race relations.

Black voters typically vote overwhelmingly Democratic: they cast ballots for Hillary Clinton nationwide by a 89% to 8% margin in the 2016 presidential race, and even broader margins for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012.
But black voters made up 29% of the vote in Alabama in Tue

But black voters made up 29% of the vote in Alabama in Tuesday's election a larger-than-expected share more comparable to the composition of the electorate in a presidential race for Obama than an off-year special election

The only reason Blacks would make a difference is they showed up in strength rather than sat the race out, particularly compared to Whites. That is, their voting pattern was already a lock. But, if they were apathetic about the candidate(s) then that's were the difference would lie. If they were excited or motivated to go vote they could have made the narrow margin in favor of the Democrat particularly if White voters didn't turn out in droves by the same set of motivation or lack thereof.

It was the write in votes, presumably by Republicans, that cost Moore the election.

The Political Bosses in Alabama are not going to allow a bunch of out of state people come in and vote. Jones will probably lose in a recount. This is NOT the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.
