Too bloody bad. He's a deserter and a traitor. He deserves what he gets.

Good, than he should have stayed with them. What a dumb ass.
      My worst jump story:
My 13th jump was on the 13th day of the month, aircraft number 013.
As recorded on my DA Form 1307 Individual Jump Log.
      No lie.

Then he should have stayed with the Taliban...

I read his whining in the article. Guy hasn't got a clue.

Actually the title of thread is wrong. In the article he stated that the Taliban had been more honest with him, he never states they treated him better. In fact he states they tortured him.

That said his sentencing is tomorrow, he pleaded guilty so no appeal. He receives it and heads of to start his sentence. As it should be.

          Of shoes—and ships—and sealing-wax—
          Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—
          And whether pigs have wings.”

Still have to question his uniform. Who and how promoted him and how can he wear more than one award of the GCM. Good Conduct Medal.

The NY Post even had that headline. You'd think they'd read their own article before putting the headline on it.

All Prisoners of War basically get an auto promote. He'll only have the SGT chevron's until tomorrow.

                    He wasn't a POW - he is a deserter.

Sorry, that was nor his official designation. So your point is immaterial.

I want to hear the answer to those questions as well.
I have co workers who served in the same regiment with Bergdahl and he had a reputation as a loner and a sad sack type, never pulled his weight, unreliable, the kind of guy you didn’t want covering you back.
He joined the army because nobody else would hire him.
Dispite our best intentions, the system is dysfunctional that intelligence failure is guaranteed.

                          I already stated the reason.

With the promotion, Bowe Bergdahl, 25, rises to the rank of sergeant. He was last promoted in June 2010 to the rank of specialist, according to Central Command.
Brig. Gen. Rick Mustion, the adjutant general of the Army, traveled to Bergdahl's hometown of Hailey, Idaho, on Thursday to deliver the promotion certificate to his parents.
The Army has been giving Bergdahl promotions that would have come to him had his Army career gone as planned. If he returns home safely, the Army will give him all the back pay that he has earned while in captivity.

No, it is entirely material, since he deserted before capture. He claims to have been a prisoner, but one cannot be imprisoned by an enemy one went to willingly.
And then there is the testimony of his fellow soldiers...

The military court proclaimed him a deserter, he confessed voluntarily to being a deserter, and that is what he is, not a POW. POW's do not get sent to Leavenworth...but deserters do.

Bergdahl's problem was that he expected to be welcomed as a hero by the Taliban and instead found himself confined because no one, even the enemy, trusts a deserter, because if he will do it once, he will likely do it again.
