Agreed that ISIL and the Third Reich were and are morally incorrect. The Roman Empire though was complex and did have tolerate leadership through its history unlike the CSA, ISIL, and Reich.

The Romans often offered the locals the chance to honor their God or Gods while also agreeing to honor the Roman Gods.

But it was individual freedom, the freedom to live as you choose, that had a guarantee and extension under the Roman emperors that it had never had before under the old free city-states of Greece and the Roman Republic.

It was a time of social mobility. You could begin life as a slave, purchase your freedom, and go on to become a billionaire by the standards of the day. It was also an age of cultural diversity. The Roman emperors believed that it was part of their mission to foster the culture of others. So Roman emperors built temples to the gods of Gaul, to the gods of Egypt-in fact, most of the great temples you see today as you go up the Nile are results of the Roman age in Egypt. The Roman emperor was worshipped as Pharaoh by the people of Egypt. At the same time, they believed that every nation, every empire must be bound together by a common set of cultural values founded in religion.

            • Roman Empire> CSA...surely folks like American87 can agree that the Romans which btw if anyone here has European ancestry, Arab or African ancestry be proud, proud to descend from the Romans.

In the Third Century the Romans had Arabs, Africans and European fighting for a common causes...the Csa never had this not in the sense that the Romans did,

The Romans had such a diverse empire because they conquered it. As you remember, all the provinces put up a good fight before they were conquered.

And you are referring to the Principate government, which was fine and dandy except for crazy monarchs, gladiator fights, and Christian persecutions. But it seems you appreciate that period regardless. Why can't you appreciate the old US even though it had slavery?

Careful, that post may have put you on their list all by itself, and if you are serious you'd have to get all of them at once.

De Blasio and his ilk are motivated by a hatred that is more a part of them than their own souls are. You can see it in their eyes and hear it in their voices. What you just said is exactly what they are trying to provoke in the half of the country that they hate the most.
Give them an excuse while they are in power, and they would love nothing more that to blanket every Red State with Nuclear warheads and Chemical weapons.
Deep down, you know it, too.

Just be patient a little longer. The great part is, those creatures to incredibly incompetent and disconnected. Give them enough rope, and they will not only hang themselves, but everyone standing by them.

                  • Baby Jesus the latest victim of the purge....

Removal of a number of statues and other smaller Catholic icons from the campus of San Domenico School in San Anselmo has raised concerns among some parents.
In an email to the school’s board of directors, Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and the head of school, Shannon Fitzpatrick objected to the removal of the statues and other steps the school has taken in an effort to make the school more inclusive.
“Articulating an inclusive foundation appears to mean letting go of San Domenico’s 167-year tradition as a Dominican Catholic school and being both afraid and ashamed to celebrate one’s heritage and beliefs,” wrote Fitzpatrick, whose 8-year-old son attends the school.

She added, “In our time here, the word ‘Catholic’ has been removed from the mission statement, sacraments were removed from the curriculum, the lower school curriculum was changed to world religions, the logo and colors were changed to be ‘less Catholic,’ and the uniform was changed to be less Catholic.”
                    ----
Kim Pipki, whose daughter left San Domenico two years ago after graduating from ninth grade, said some of the statues were also important to families who aren’t Catholic.
“The one main statue that has everyone fired up is the baby Jesus and Mary one,” Pipki said. “It was at the center of the primary school courtyard.”

                    • Stupid, stupid, stupid. Go back to you little island with your little brain thinking.

Is anyone here familiar with Grants order regarding the Jews?

What tangible damage did the expulsion do? Very little, as far as Mr. Sarna, chief historian at the National Museum of American Jewish History and the co-editor of “Jews and the Civil War: A Reader” can tell. He can provide no individual accounts of families fleeing the order, no more than four affidavits about the expulsion and no reports of physical hardship beyond those who claimed they had been jailed briefly, treated roughly or forbidden from changing out of wet clothes. It is not the magnitude of the incident that makes it so enduring, ugly or willfully ignored.
                      Interesting stuff. Thanks Bwaha

It was a remarkable saga of atonement. From scourge of the Jews to their great friend in Washington; from the general who trampled Jewish liberty to the president who made protection of their rights a priority. Only in America.

                        • Good grief. Anyone familiar with Grant and his actions in the Western Theater would know what would happen.

Blasio needs to go home and be quiet.

I acquired Osprey's: campaign series #19: Hattin 1187. #31: Yarmuk 636 AD. Men-at-Arms 171: Saladin and the Saracens. Men-at-Arms 259: The Mamluks 1250-1517 and Men-at-Arms 255: Armies of the Muslim Conquest because a certain library (and there may well have been others) were ordered to remove them from the shelves immediately due to ethnic-religious sensibilities. This was in 2004. They were removed and thrown into their rubbish bin. A 'person' who was and is acquainted with me and worked as a librarian at said library, retrieved them and gave them to me. So censorship is an ongoing thing in the west.

                            • Now the antifa wants to forbid Gone with the Wind, as did the nazis with All quiet on the Western Front, when they took power .

After the movies, they will purge the books;maybe they could burn them as in Germany in 1933?

I'd be more concerned about what DeBlasio is 'wanting' to do in New York City.
