  • Interior Sec Ryan Zinke Called and Threatened Alaska's two Sen over Heathcare vote

OK, seems President Trumps Interior Sec called up both Senators from Alaska and threaten possible future policy and decisions on Federal lands, energy actions etc because of Sen Murkowski's vote against starting debate on the Healthcare legislation.

Now let's set aside the fact that such decisions should be based on law and merit and not used to blackmail Senators but look at what immediate result this petty action had. Sen Murkowski heads a Sen Subcommittee that was supposed to vote and send to the floor 6 nominations for Interior Department sub-secretaries.... The votes have been cancelled and place on hold with no date..... Not smart Sec Zinke....

The committee led by Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) postponed a vote on six Trump administration nominees the same day that a cabinet secretary allegedly threatened retribution against her over a healthcare vote.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee publicized the postponement of the vote, which included three Department of the Interior nominees, shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
That afternoon, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke called her and Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), saying that her vote against debate on Obamacare repeal might steer the administration away from policies that benefit her state, the Alaska Dispatch News reported.

“I’m not going to go into the details, but I fear that the strong economic growth, pro-energy, pro-mining, pro-jobs and personnel from Alaska who are part of those policies are going to stop,” Sullivan told the newspaper about his own call from Zinke.
“The time has come,” the Walrus said,
    “To talk of many things:
    Of shoes—and ships—and sealing-wax—
    Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—
    And whether pigs have wings.”

Sorry, but this is just standard operating procedure in the halls of Washington, DC. Threats and promises of pork are the name of the game.

Why should we believe the senator from Alaska ?

And why should we believe The Hill, which is only a part of the Democratic propaganda machine ?

On Post 2 you were writing : "it seems", which means that ,except for what Murkowski ( a Trump RINO hater) was saying, you have no proof .

No it was the other Senator from Alaska, the one that voted FOR the motion to proceed... i.e. supported President Trump, that made the statement.

That is why I also provided the quote and the source in my OP.

                        Again:

That afternoon, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke called her and Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), saying that her vote against debate on Obamacare repeal might steer the administration away from policies that benefit her state, the Alaska Dispatch News reported.

So the source is not The Hill, it's an Alaskan newspaper and the person being quoted is Senator Sullivan who did NOT vote against starting the healthcare debate...

Plus Sen Murkowski is the Chairwoman of not a subcommittee but THE committee that holds sway over the Dept of the Interior. So she controls not just nominations but can hold oversight investigations about the dept etc. She also chairs the Appropriations Sub-committee that determines the Departments budget etc... like I said stupid move on Sec Zinke part. Typical of this administration, clumsy and prone to over reaction.
“The time has come,” the Walrus said,

It's about leverage, who has it, who does not. The Senator has it, Sec Zinke and President Trump do not.

First she has 5+ years before she runs again.

Beyond all of that, it’s not even clear what leverage Trump or his administration has over Murkowski compared to the power she might wield over them. While Sullivan is a first-term senator, Murkowski is chairman both of the Senate’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee and of the appropriations subcommittee for energy and the environment. What that means is she leads congressional oversight over policy and funding for Zinke’s department and can thwart his goals just as much if not more than he could thwart hers.

Murkowski is already thwarting the goals of the administration :it's a public secret that she is an enemy of Trump .

How can Sullivan know that Zinke was threatening Murkowski ? Unless Murkowski told it to Sullivan . If so ,where is the proof that Murkowski told the truth ? The fact that she is a senatoe is not a proof that she told the truth .
