  • Gov. Chris Christie is blistered over his day at the beach

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie got blistered by the public Monday after he was photographed sunning himself over the Fourth of July weekend on a New Jersey beach that he had closed to everyone else because of a government shutdown.

Online, people mocked the governor as selfish and arrogant and cracked jokes about the sight of the heavyset Christie in a beach chair in sandals, shorts and a T-shirt. Jokesters soon inserted the photo into an Oval Office picture and scenes from “Planet of the Apes,” ″From Here to Eternity” and “The Sopranos.”

Christie defended his visit to the shore, saying that he had previously announced his plans to vacation at the state-owned governor’s beach house and that the media had simply “caught a politician keeping his word.”

The deeply unpopular Republican was photographed Sunday by NJ.com at Island Beach State Park. He and his family had the sun and sand all to themselves.

the best comment I read was:
he closed the state, closed the bridge, but did not close the fridge

Rod Blagojevich did something similar in Illinois, moving back and forth

I love the defence his team tried to mount after Christie's claim that he didn't get any sun was exposed as a bare faced lie.

"He did not get any sun. He had a baseball hat on," Mr Murray reportedly added.

Lots of good photo-shopping with this one.

              Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—

He is quite despised on both sides of the aisle here in NJ.

The fat bastard just doesn't care. He's a lame pig governor.

But thankfully, the impasse is over and I can go back to MY beach.

With only six months to go he no longer even pretends.

I've lost pretty much all respect for Christie ... and to think, just 4 years ago I was championing him as a future president following his near landslide re-election (in 2013 Christie won near record levels of support from ethnic minorities for a Republican in modern times). Then came "Bridgegate" and his cozying up to Trump which deprived him of the last bits of dignity he had.

I really, really liked the guy ... especially compared to Prince Andrew Cuomo
