But, hey - maybe we could put up an Obama scarecrow and lure out all of the Muslim terrorists.
    Works for me as well.

Actually this was the most surprising aspect of the first reports of those that were present at private meetings during his visit.

Trump is much less loud and obnoxious in private then he is in public, he doesn't monopolize conversation as you might expect, doesn't make silly statements, but instead accepts proposals for consideration and leaves much of the detail to his specialists, presidential if you want.

He even showed signs of having prepared for it.

In short - in private meeting he appears more intelligent (humble) than he makes himself out to be in public.

On the other hand, he does not seem to do well in meetings with multiple participants, like the NATO council or G7.

The biggest negative was that he doesn't appear to have the faintest inkling of what US policy will be, he seems to make it up as he goes along.

Oh - and his wife refuses to sleep in the same building, she demanded a hotel room three blocks away, while he stayed at the embassy,

        what's up with that ?

People are still thinking in an orthodox way politically . Trump was voted in as a warning to Washington. Hey listen to us. If the democrats played it that way rather than wailing to the gods they'd be back in power in 4 years easy. Instead they just assume he's in there because of racism and and are doubling down with their own crazy and making matters worse screeching impeach impeach without concrete evidence . It just reinforces why people hate washington and voted trump in the first place.

Partially. Democrats misreading the voter is certainly a thing - just look at 2016 - but one must always remember that Hillary still did win the popular vote: their policies and agenda have a broad appeal and aren't a fringe party.

What the Dems need to do to win is continue to represent Trump as unpalatable while working on the groups they "lost" to bring them back into the fold. Paint the GOP as anti-poor and anti-working class.

However, they also have to come back with something more concrete and need to understand that they have to appeal to those purple states they lost in 2016 in more ways than just demonizing the GOP. Not impossible at all, but it will require some work for sure.

Though the Dems would need to truly evaluate their own position to be able to do as much, and as long as they're believing their own crap don't stink and moralize about how superior they are to anyone else, it will be hard to change their policies.
