  • This is the best way to deal with these monsters..

At least he did one thing right. This is the way to treat this scum.

A man accused of repeatedly raping a 10-year-old girl, before later killing her and her grandparents in a house fire has jumped to his death in the courthouse where he was on trial.

The moment Robert Seman Jr, 48, made the fatal decision was captured on security cameras as he walked between two police officers in the Mahoning County Courthouse.

Suddenly he can be seen veering right and clambering over the balcony railing, before he plunges from the fourth floor to his death.

Had Seman gone to trial he could have been convicted of aggravated murder of 10-year-old Corrine Gump, 63-year-old William Schmidt and 61-year-old Judith Schmidt for which he could have been sentenced to death.

Prosecutors later said of the suicide that it was telling that he took this decision, rather than face trial.

When he was arrested following the arson Seman was found by investigators to have burns on his body. The bodies of the three victims were found on the second floor of the burnt house of the 10-year-oldís grandparentís house.

I believe we call that a 'conviction'.

      Appealed to a higher court.

I am sure those two escorting officers are blessing security camera makers.

        "He jumped."

        "Seriously, tell the truth."

        "HE JUMPED."

        "Its been used. Try again."

If he survived they could throw him off again.

... what's to say that this fella's escape attempt wasn't foiled by altitude, and gravity?

Would that more of his ilk should take themselves out so as to avoid the cost of trial, conviction, incarceration for as long as the mandatory appeals process runs its course and finally the cost of execution. Suicide should be an option given those who are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

It wasn't the four story fall that killed him; it was the sudden stop at the bottom...

The security footage makes it clear the officers weren't even watching him.

Someone should throw them off the balcony, too.

It looks like this vile excuse for a human couldn't live with the consequences of his actions. Although the world is undoubtedly a better place without him, it seems to me he's escaped his punishment. I'd rather he'd lived an unbearable life for the next 20 or so years then topped himself.

The court commands you to produce the body.

                        They still had the body.

                        Mission accomplished.

I think it more likely that they are trying hard to explain why he was able to turn away from them without them seeing him, and why he isn't wearing any restraints, both easily determined in this video.

They're probably trying to keep their jobs right about now.

yes, I agree..they look lackadaisical for someone accused of what he did
and, I don't trust most people..in their job, they should at least try to expect the unexpected

                              Nah.

He is dressed for court, en route for court. Case law says that there must be exceptional circumstances for any sort of restraint in any circumstance where a juror or potential juror may see said restraint.

If a SOB jumps for a railing, I'm not grabbing him. That is a good way to end up falling as well. The order says produce the body, and I can collect the body after it lands. I would keep a hand on him if we were on the ground or first floor, but otherwise not.
