The Democratic Party is bleeding constituencies, and has been for more than a quarter of a century, and are in danger of going the way of the Federalists (who acted similarly by the way). However, they still act as if they are the majority party in the U.S. and not at par, at best, or a minority, as is likely (at least if voting patterns are anything to go by). You may find solace that "conservative old angry white men" are a minority or will be a minority in the not so distant future, but the truth is that image is a canard. We are in the midst of a cycle. Historically, about every three generations the nation's political poles flip, and we are seeing this play out over the last 15 years or so as the GOP gains the majority, and Trump is merely a reflection of the high dissatisfaction with the Liberal and Political Elite. It does not matter if he exaggerates with unrestrained hyperbole when he speaks. What matters is what he DOES, and if he starts taking an axes to the D.C. bureaucracy and lefty-liberal policies of insufferable political correctness no one will care he thinks himself better than anything since the invention of sliced bread. Just so long as he does it. People have become fed up with Democrats' effeteness and incompetence as well as Republican failures to follow through with their past promises, because they are afraid of losing their gravy train jobs or the ravings of a hostile press.

You see, all you critics only hang on words, not really actions, and Trump is getting a lot done that is going under the radar simply because he cries "Boo!" at the Press and they instantly fly into a frantic discombobulation. Personally I think it is genius if sometimes (but not always) accidental.
You might want to revisit your 'ideas.' Republican Congressmen are being run out of their own town hall meetings and some are not being responsive to their constituents and are paying a price. One of them, I can't recall who, now has his picture on milk cartons as he is 'missing' from his contituents.

The 2018 congressional races might be interesting. And if the Democrats get back in, and that means the harpie Pelosi as speaker again, that defeat can be laid directly at the door of Trump and his bigoted, ignorant nonsense. Trump with a Democratic congress will be interesting.
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.
