  • Similarity between 2016 Presidential election and the 1940 Presidential Election

Wendell Willkie was a so called dark horse candidate .. and business man from Indiana who emerged to lead the GOP in the 1940 Presidential Election ,

On the Democratic side was FDR, an established politician. FDR went on to convincingly win the election, winning the popular vote by almost 5 million and the electoral vote by a count of 449-82.

Today we are seeing Donald Trump, a business man from NY who some might call a dark horse candidate...lead the GOP in the 2016 1940 Presidential Election . While Hillary Clinton, an established politician, has emerged to lead the democratic party.

IMO Mrs Clinton will win with at least +5% of the popular vote compared to Trump and will earn 150+ more electoral votes compared to Trump.

Will Mrs Clinton win the popular vote in as convincing of a fashion as FDR did in 1940? How will the Americans speak , well we will see on Nov 8th, 2016.

FDR was a sitting president - almost always an advantage. This is not the case today. And which World War is the American people hoping their president will keep them out of?

There are other similarities between Roosevelt and Clinton. An attempt was made by Wendell Willkie to denounce Roosevelt as un American for running for a 3rd term. Willkie might not have been as insulting as Trump is toward Clinton...but there appears to be a similarity in the way that Trump supporters and Willkie supporters were trying to denounce the opposing Candidate.

Its true that Mrs Clinton is not a sitting Potus , but at the same time Mrs Clintons husband...Bill Clinton was a popular 2 term POTUS..and Mrs Clinton herself has an established political career where again both Willkie and Trump had no previous experience in politics compared to their running mate.

One thing I hope that Clinton does if she wins...is to have the same type of attitude toward ISIL as Roosevelt had toward the Third Reich.

Now Roosevelt made it crystal clear to the world after becoming elected in 1940....we wont put up with the Third Reich was Roosevelt's policy.

There is something odd being brought up in discussion circles today...that is the nonsense talk about ISIL "civilians". Let it be said that non militant people who support ISIL are not civilians but are in fact folks who support the enslavement of fellow humans. And yet there are folks today worried about targeting "civilians" in ISIL lands...this type of talk is seriously wrong... ISIL and the Third Reich were not like a regular opponent and thats what folks are seriously overlooking when they discuss "civilians"(more like bullies that need to be stood up to) and ISIL. When folks suggest we need to totally destroy ISIL like we did to the Third Reich...nowhere is anyone saying that warfare is a good thing or that its ok to target innocents... but the thing is something has to be done. And again when we are talking about the Third Reich and ISIL....these groups have and had massive support from non militants. Those non militants who supported the Third Reich, and those non militants who support ISIL both approved of slavery and of destroying other humans simply because these other humans practiced a different lifestyle or were born a certain way.

Roosevelt stressed to work with our allies to fight The Third Reich, Mrs. Clinton stresses to work with our allies to fight ISIL...thats a notable similarity between Roosevelt and Mrs Clinton. Trump is failing in this regard by talking about "Terrorist nations" that the US should not support. Thats a mistake by Trump...its not helping because the USA in WW2 helped the USSR to destroy the Third Reich. There was a time before the US-USSR alliance that many Americans were against the USSR. But when the USA and USSR entered into an alliance it served a great purpose in helping the allies win the war. And neither the US nor the USSR were perfect, they both had their controversies. But without USSR and USA working together, the allies might have lost WW2 and we might all be in big trouble today. So it is therefore vital that international powers team up to destroy ISIL, this is what WW2 taught us...to set aside differences and work together for a greater goal. Clinton is right to suggest the US needs to work with its allies in the middle east to fight ISIL, but Clinton needs to find a way to work with Russia and Iran to fight ISIL.

Here's another one, Willkie only joined the GOP in 1939 mirroring Trump who has been a Democrat for much of his life. And one more: like Trump he also promoted the idea of "America First", however Willkie was more hawkish than the standard isolationists of the time.
