  • Can Trump dump the Republicans?

Mr Trump sees himself as bigger than the party whose primary voters he courted, and now he will open fire on perceived enemies who surround him. Democrat Hillary Clinton, in a new television advert, lacks the "stamina" to lead. Mr Ryan, he tweeted, is "weak and ineffective".
Mr Trump, in his own words, is "unshackled" at last. In 2008 Republicans fretted that their vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, had "gone rogue" and was woefully off-message. Eight years later, an entire presidential campaign has become unmoored and is threatening to rage against the fabric of their party.
Unshackled or unhinged? Where does this leave the party ticket? Is he now really an independent? Does this allow the Republicans to put in a new nominee? Has there ever been a bigger mess? Would you trust this lot to run a lemonade stand?

Trump has only ever been in a party of one. His political ideas have always been a grab bag. But I think the ship has long since sailed on a new nominee.

The more interesting question would be what he could accomplish if he generates no real sense of loyalty even within his own party.

He has not dropped of the GOP ticket he's just at war with the GOP.... Very interesting setup.

I hope he does, after the election, and then set up a party that is willing to represent the views and hopes of the people that have had no other option than to vote for people who only pretend to do so.... Republicans, in other words.

But first, I would like to see him actually do so.

If he manages to get the libertarian Republicans to join him, he might be able to get an alternate party up. However, the real question is how it will be funded; if the libertarians can gather enough money together, maybe. Trump isn't going to pay much of it from his own money for sure.
Also, if new Trumpist Party is composed of fringest who can't appeal to the mainstream, then it is doomed in the long run. If Stormfront or similar groups acts as his bodyguard or as some part of his organization or support, you can be sure it won't last. Mainly, because that will be bad for Trumps investments and he's smart enough to know that would be bad for him personally and his kids. He doesn't really care too much for any other party funders unless they have more money than him or will pay for his bills.

After his threats to put Clinton in jail he won't have time for more than court appearances.

It appears he thinks he can.

A new party that can only draw about 20-30% of the voters is a losing party.

No, the sky is not falling, chicken little. Ryan is not fully backing Trump, and Trump is taking advantage of the growing resentment within the GOP rank and file over the RINOs who are not on board with the platform.

Apparently the Tea Party's purge didn't convince all, so there will have to be more house-cleaning in the coming elections.
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.

Taking advantage to throw the election to the Dem's is a more accurate description.

Ronald Reagan would be considered a RINO in the current climate! The Republican party is headed for self-destruction whether you realize it or not. A lunatic fringe made up primarily of old, angry, racist, bigoted, xenophobic white men is tearing the GOP apart; it's rather sad actually.

                            Nonsense.

The DNP circumvents their own convention, and puts up a corrupt half-dead shell of a human being as the best they can do.

This isn't a career spent sailing in circles waiting for the boat to rust, Bass. Politics requires cunning.
