  • Why does Trump refuse to hire Americans for Mar-a-Lago?

If Donald Trump is so eager to put Americans back to work why does he hire foreigners on visas to work at Mar-a-Lago?

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/26/us...club.html?_r=0
Since 2010, nearly 300 United States residents have applied or been referred for jobs as waiters, waitresses, cooks and housekeepers there. But according to federal records, only 17 have been hired.

In all but a handful of cases, Mar-a-Lago sought to fill the jobs with hundreds of foreign guest workers from Romania and other countries.

In his quest for the Republican presidential nomination, Mr. Trump has stoked his crowds by promising to bring back jobs that have been snatched by illegal immigrants or outsourced by corporations, and voters worried about immigration have been his strongest backers.

But he has also pursued more than 500 visas for foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago since 2010, according to the United States Department of Labor, while hundreds of domestic applicants failed to get the same jobs.
So much for American workers. I can't believe there are people that are still falling for this conman

All the private clubs such as the Mar-a-Lago run the same season in South Florida, so it is only temporary, and top of that, the work is part time. Qualified help is hard to get. They all do exactly the same thing hire foreigners that follow the work in different parts of the world according to the appropriate seasons. Also, in the resort business, the workers have to be good looking and young. You don't see old, ugly or fat workers at high end clubs, restaurants, and boutiques.

They don't go after just foreign worker because they are cheap, as both foreign or American get paid the same rate. They want the exotic accents, that is why nearly all are Eastern European or South African.

I guess the vacationers have someone else do all the talking for them on the phone with tech-support.

You again, if the Democrats wouldn't be insisting on handing out welfare checks people might want to work those kind of jobs. Ever think about it?

I worked in an Indian Casino for almost ten years. Most of the low paying "clean up" jobs were filled by locals. Our Table Games Department were full of people from other places! One of our Indian Dealers was a Paiute from Nevada and another was a Choctaw from Mississippi. The Table Games was always having a turnover. People screwed up, got attacked by Supervisors and decided they wanted to work elsewheres all the time. One of our higher Management people was from the Philippines. I liked the place fine but I screwed up and was let go. I probably could get hired back but my health is declining and I doubt I can work on my feet any more for as long as we are supposed to.

Working part time sucks. I did not get full time status until after about five years there. The last three I was scheduled forty hours a week to boot. Management does not pay the same benefits to part timers and if the foreigner causes a fuss, he is gone! If you do that with a local he might take you to court!

Part of the problem is that there are not enough qualified locals that want to take on a seasonal low-paying part time jobs that are offered by all the local private resorts at exactly the same time.

In the front, the workers have to be young and good looking as well as being able to speak fluent English. We have to honest that Americans on average are less likely to be multilingual than Europeans where the vast majority of these guest workers come from - and thus are less qualified in the eyes of the resort owners. And since the main clientele of the South Florida resorts are Americans, the accents is a plus for image and marketing because it makes the resort experience seem more exotic.

Many workers from other nations are like fish and birds, they are migratory according to season. Take the workers at the seafood processing plants in Alaska, they are nearly all outsiders that come in for the crab season and then go somewhere else to exploit another season. They follow the migratory paths of the seafood critters.

The entire harvesting and packing season for apples are only a few weeks. There is no way in hell that the local economies have enough workers and then go back into dormancy.

This whole issue of foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago is not an issue because it is a common practice in that trade as well as others. It is only an issue to people that want to denigrate Trump.

People wanted to work, they applied for the jobs, they were turned down.

                  WOW, just WOW.

Locals applied but were turned down and just because it is a common practice, does that make it right?

Wanting and doing are two different things, it takes more than just reading, apply a little inductive reasoning and that little brain might be able to figure it out.

Did you even read the article? It says that 300 Americans applied for these jobs, only 17 were hired ... meanwhile Trump's corporation applied for hundreds of visas.

So you have all the answers? Why in your liberal mind were they not hired? Care to take a few guesses?

                              1. They asked for a living wage.
                              2. The resort couldn't hold the visa over their head.
                              3. Trump was lining up candidates to be his next wife; he seems to like "imports".
