  • A look at political hair scandals over the years

PARIS (AP) — French President Francois Hollande's $11,000-a-month barber bills have ignited a national scandal, undermining his carefully constructed image as a regular guy. But hair challenges have bedeviled plenty of other politicians. Here's a look at some hair-raising moments:

EDWARDS: HAIR CUTS FROM $1,250 to $12.95

In 2007, U.S. Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, who pledged to alleviate poverty, raised a brow or two after his campaign disclosed that he'd received two $400 haircuts.

The pricy hairdresser Joseph Torrenueva said he upped the regular price of $150 because of travel expenses involved in going to meet the silken-haired Edwards on the campaign trail. Torrenueva added that one haircut cost $1,250 as he had to fly to Atlanta and miss two days of work.

The exorbitant haircuts didn't help Edwards, with then-Senator Barack Obama winning the Democratic nomination.

In 2012, Edwards was spotted at the humble, no-appointment chain SuperCuts — where a men's snip sets you back a populist-friendly $12.95.

Don't forget Bill Clinton's haircut on Air Force 1 at LAX that shut down the airport for several hours...

Might want to check the facts on that one

Way back in 1992, columnist Mike Royko, wrote that Bill Clinton had no chance of winning the Democrat nomination because his hair looked like a frightened porcupine.

Ever since JFK, the myth of hairpower has flourished.

Clinton shut down two runways and caused a major set of problems for controllers and other aircraft as a result of wanting to get a what...? $200 haircut?

The major takeaway should be the arrogance and uncaring about anyone else that all shows. But, it is in the vein of this thread...

And the basic fact is that airport didn't shut down, so it's not hyperbole. Your own wiki link states as much and goes on to disprove your next three links.....

                    That's a gotcha TAG.

Two runways???? Or was it one? Each runway goes in both direction making them two.

Going from the OP, haircut at the time and place was totally dumb.

I just meant that Clinton wasn't forgotten - it was the last one mentioned.

Of course, the article does say that the amount of problems may have been exaggerated at the time, but in the end I think we can all agree that politicians and their beauty standards certainly can be more important than those of the average person.

Besides, I don't need LAX to know that Clinton could screw up travel for other people. He did it to me in person back in 1999.
