  • Man dies while unloading $12 million in pot

Officers responded to a man found lying next to his vehicle; turns out he died of natural causes while moving twelve million dollars worth of pot from one vehicle to another.

Not how dope dealers usually check out...

Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.

How does the Police always come up with the ridiculously high $ estimates all the time?

How we do it is simple math: street cost times weight. I don't know how that agency figures it.

Well everybody dies of something and criminals have no natural immunity to what takes the general population - indeed if they did it might challenge my own moral system

              I figured as such.

My contention is that LE also seem to use the absolute highest price imaginable. It just don't seem right to use the highest price quoted by some small time low end street corner dealer that overcharges tourists before haggling.

Say I get caught fishing without a license and was busted with a 5# salmon. According to the prices charged for sushi at Iron Chef Morimoto's Nobu restaurant, that salmon's "street" value would be probably at least $50,000 according to math, and probably a lot more if the guts (some restaurants marinate them), liver (only at the finest restaurants because of skill level), cheeks (deep fried, it is called Kama), the skin (toasted in strips), roe, and even the bones are used.

If it was reported in a local paper that I was busted poaching a $100,000 salmon, everyone will think it was a typo or that Fish and Game is stupid or full of it. Yet, outlandish figures such as $12mil pot in one vehicle or $2mil kilo of cocaine is not questioned by the reading public.

A semi can contain eighteen million worth of pot, I know from personal observation. If it is cleaned high-grade stuff.

And there was a semi involved in this deal.

Plus I don't know how much they pay in Georgia. Texas is flooded with cheap high-grade cartel pot, so the prices are down.

And if it really was worth that much, there would be a larger crew.

SO? It is a mythical $18mil to law enforcement. It can never get that full value on the street.

Prices are down everywhere. That is what make LE claims so comical. I get it. Inflate value to increase significance in LE.

Not necessarily in the larger crew department. The cartels are not gunning up their shipment much anymore; they count on the fear of their name to do the job, at least in Texas. Lone mules are more common than not lately. But things might be different in Georgia.

I don't know of any agencies that inflate numbers, but I won't say it never happens. Given that this was not a bust, I don't see why they would inflate the numbers. Finding dope without a suspect isn't all that exciting.

Its possible LE in this case used the highest street prices possible to get that 12$ million #. LE in general, in its failed policy toward illegal drugs needs to do what it can to paint a picture to the public that the policies toward illegal drugs are effective. So what better way to just up and invent a #, 12 million dollars....when estimating the value of the pot you have found. Now in realty that pot could be worth 1$, 10k, 1 million dollars...this all depends on a # of factors.

The reason why the police are even able to give such a high estimate is because of the unconstitutional fact that cannabis is illegal in most states in the first place. If Cannabis was legal across all 50 states, your looking at spending 5-10$ on a so called eighth(3.5 grams) of Cannabis instead of the usual "street" price of between 30-60$ for an eighth.

It appears though the future is bright. More and more states are seeing the negative effects of it being illegal to posses or grow Cannabis , and are therefore taking steps to legalize or decriminalize Cannabis.

How is it unconstitutional for pot to be illegal? Is there a clause or amendment that guarantees the right to get stoned? Just interested.

It is not a matter of intentionally lying, but using a multiplier that is not suitable. When one reads about it, the claim is usually something like "worth up to __". One cannot not expect that every bit of an entire shipment will be broken down into tiny nickel bags sold at the highest possible street price for smallest size denominator.

What would be much useful is an estimation of potential profit by the owner of the shipment based on hierarchy of the distribution pyramid. Surely, the cops can pretty much figure out that the capture on hand is kingpin, high..mid..low level distribution, or low level street corner pusher.

It reminds me of tax collectors, they also find the highest absolute figure based on some formula that may make sense to them, but is nearly always wrong because they apply the wrong multiplier.
