  • If President Obama or Mrs Clinton had done this we'd have a storm going on here.

Trump stopped mid-speech and told the huge group of potential voters to raise their right and hands and repeat after him in a pledge that they will vote for him in the Florida primary on March 12, no matter what.
“Don’t forget you all raised your hands, you swore. Bad things happen if you don’t live up to what you just did.”
“The time has come,” the Walrus said,
    “To talk of many things:
    Of shoes—and ships—and sealing-wax—
    Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—
    And whether pigs have wings.”

Why? It's his supporters, at his rally.

The question is not about Trumps rally, its about what we'd have going on here if a Democrat did it.

Oh my, we could not have a thread about anything like that, could we?

We could probably dig deep enough and find one instance of it, in happened in both election cycles but what's the point it probably has happened during all election cycles.

The thing that I find funny about this one is that it looks like they look like something else:

At least the Obama pledge was over the heart.....

Trump is a megalomaniac and if he's really talking about expanding torture laws, then he's going to be up to expanding all sort of other laws. If someone is paranoid about government expansion or overreach, this is the litmus test for what's acceptable. He's definitely bad news.

It would be remarkable if you didn't.

                    Its a common thing.
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.

I have people swear to God on a regular basis:

*That the pants they are currently wearing aren't theirs
*That the weed in Their Pants isn't theirs
*That the car they are driving which is full of weed isn't theirs

Point being that aside from the moral/religious objections to swearing, swearing to something is quite meaningless to most people. Trump supporters at a Trump rally 'swearing' that they will vote for Trump is trite, but I don't see anything particularly 'dictatorial' about it. When they start swearing to put him in office by vote or by force, then I'll take notice.

The same would apply to a Clinton or Sanders rally as well.

"Ok citizens, back to your lives, shows over"

I've done it at numerous conventions and party meetings over the decades. And at association meetings in my agency.

                          You wouldn't understand-its a patriot thing.

I don't think you understand what I actually posted. I'll try again. Please show me a video, picture etc of President Obama or another Democrat asking for and leading people pledging allegiance to themselves.

We're not talking about the Pledge of Allegiance. Well maybe we could segway it in this thread by asking people to use the original salute that the author of the pledge wanted people to use while they recited it.

Pretty well any semblance of a point, is what you are missing.
