  • Comparison of Demagogues...

    'My Fellow Citizens,
The rise of this blusterous man bewilders the educated among us, conjoins opposing politicians, agonizes our international allies, threatens minorities, spits on the disabled, and touches the hearts of those who just donít know any better.

Let us stop propounding how mad this all is, but instead, do something.'

    Lisolette Hubner
    Germany, 1929

    Food for thought, I think.

Trump mocks the disabled, calls for the mass deportation of 11 million illegals, proposes that the families of ISIS members be murdered, and proposes torture as a national policy.

The smiliarities with Hitler are becoming alarming. And Hitler was propelled into national power through an election in a democracy.
Obama and his administration are pests; Trump could indeed become something infinitely worse.

As the besieged Poles in Warsaw beseeched the Russians for help when they rose against the Germans in 1944 wrote to the Russians:

'We pray thee, Red Pest, to deliver us from the Black Death.'

We don't need to give Trump the keys to the US nuclear arsenal.
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.

This is also someone who wants to limit your freedom of speech in the name of security. He's better fit to be a dictator than he is a US President.

I used to become extremely annoyed by the countless Europeans who always referred to Americans as stupid. I myself was blind enough to view such accusations as completely baseless. I was naive and arrogant enough to feel that such insults were being thrown out of jealously. But, after this election, no more. I now see where they're coming from and can no longer argue against the label.

The American voters have yet again put their selves in a terrible conundrum and they'll get what they deserve.

Trump is a populist buffoon. However he is no more of a demagogue than Maobama and Hillary are. And he certainly isn't Hitler... He's more like Republican version of Huey Long.

This makes a second reason to support Trump if he wins the nomination:
      1. He's not a Marxist (which includes, by definition, all varieties of socialism).
      2. He's not Hitler.

The comparisons with Hitler are ridiculous. For one thing, Hitler was an ideologue. Trump doesn't have any ideology. He makes it up as he goes along. Mind you, the comparisons between Obama and Hitler were equally fatuous.

I detest Trump and think he would be a disaster as President, but the hyperbolic comparisons don't help here any more than they do when the legion of dittoheads here compare Obama to Mao, Hitler etc.

America is not Weimar Germany. Not even a teeny, tiny bit close. Even if Trump was in every other way a replica of Hitler (and he isn't close) this alone torpedoes the comparison.

Hitler wasn't 'propelled to power in a democracy', he got there after winning 33% of the vote. Weimar Germany wasn't the sort of democracy you would recognize for some years before Hitler came to power. The President had effectively taken on dictatorial powers unrestrained by Constitution or Parliament. The Army was deeply politicized. Democratic culture had incredibly shallow roots. This is not just historical nitpicking. The differences are everything here.

By all means argue against Trump passionately. Point out the manifest dangerous things he has said and may do. Examine his history, there is plenty there that should raise massive red flags. Look at his character and behaviour - enough to sink better candidates than him. Find more accurate historical comparisons - the disastrous Berlusconi years in Italy are more apposite, if much less interesting and dramatic. Other far right leaders in Europe may offer similarly better comparisons than Hitler. Poor historical comparisons, however, do no one any good. They distort the discussion and ultimately are a massive distraction. Indeed, there is a good argument that they hyperbole directed against Bill Clinton, Bush & Obama actually did more harm to their critics than them.

Stick to the stuff that fits, there is plenty there.

All my concerns about Trump as president were swept away last night when he calmed my fears and confirmed he has a big penis.

It was, perhaps, my proudest moment as an American.

The quotation fits both. It isn't about ideology but actions and words that later spur actions.

Trump is a bully, an egocentric blowhard who by his words wishes harm to others, particularly innocents. He is also a liar, witness his seeing 'thousands' cheering in New Jersey when the twin towers came down.

He is singularly ill-informed on the armed forces and international relations, and praises people, Putin in particular, that mean to do us harm.

He is unqualified to be president and the quotation provided fits him to a 'T'-no pun intended.

In short, he is a danger to the republic, much more than Obama is. We don't need he nor his ilk in charge of anything in the US government.

He's hardly my first choice but if I have to I'll proudly vote for him over any leftist. Not the least of which because the next president will appoint one and probably 2 or 3 supreme court jusitices. That is more important than any president. And a supreme court loaded with Clinton liberals are a much greater threat to the Republic than Trump could be even if he tried. A heavily left wing court would be the end of constitutional democracy and thus America as we know it.

What Is the Fair Share of Taxes?

                      Walter Williams | Wednesday Mar 2, 2016 2:16 PM
                      EXCERPTS:

Presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders, along with President Obama, say they want high-income earners, otherwise known as the rich, to pay their fair share of income taxes. None of these people, as well as the uninformed in the media and our campus intellectual elites, will say precisely what is the ďfair shareĒ of taxes. That is because they would look ignorant and silly, so they stick with simply saying that the rich should pay more. Letís you and I take a peek at who pays what in federal income taxes.

The following represents 2012 income tax data recently released by the Internal Revenue Service, compiled by the Tax Foundation. The top 1 percent, 1.37 million taxpayers earning $434,682 and more, paid 38 percent of all federal income taxes. The top 5 percent, those earning $175,817 and more, paid 59 percent. The top 10 percent of income earners, those earning $125,195 and up, paid 70 percent of all federal income taxes. The top 25 percent, those earning $73,354 and up, paid 86 percent. The bottom 50 percent, people earning $36,055 and less, paid a little less than 3 percent of federal income taxes. According to estimates by the Tax Policy Center, slightly over 45 percent of American households have no federal income tax liability.

With this information in hand, you might ask the next person who says the rich do not pay their fair share of taxes: Exactly what percentage of total federal income taxes should the 1-percenters pay? I seriously doubt whether you will get any kind of coherent answer. By the way, since 1-percenter income starts at $435,000, it might be pointed out that $400,000 or $500,000 a year is not even yacht or Learjet money. Plus, if one has two kids in college, a big mortgage and car payments, I doubt he would declare himself rich.

Our demagogues also claim that corporations do not pay their fair share of taxes. The fact of the matter, which even leftist economists understand but might not publicly admit, is corporations do not pay taxes. An important subject area in economics, called tax incidence, says the entity upon whom a tax is levied does not necessarily bear the full burden of the tax. Some of the tax burden can be shifted to another party. If a tax is levied on a corporation, and if the corporation hopes to survive, it will have one of three responses to that tax or some combination thereof. It will raise the price of its product, lower dividends or lay off workers. In each case a flesh-and-blood person is made worse off. The important point is that a corporation is a legal fiction and as such does not pay taxes. As it turns out, corporations are merely tax collectors for the government.

What do the Democratic Party and a gang of criminals have in common?

Quite a bit, it turns out. In his explosive new film, ďHillaryís America,Ē outspoken pundit, author and filmmaker Dinesh DíSouza lifts the veil from the Democratic Party to show their true colors and real end game.

After spending eight months in a state-run confinement center living among hardened criminals for violating federal campaign finance law, DíSouza came to an eye-opening conclusion ó American liberalism is not a movement of ideas at all, but a series of scams and cons aimed at nothing less than stealing the wealth of the American people.

Previously, DíSouza had seen America through the eyes of a grateful immigrant who came here as a student and became successful by applying and defending conservative principles. Again and again, DíSouza made the case that America is an exceptional nation, fundamentally fair and just.

His prolonged exposure to the criminal underclass provided a new perspective in American realities. In the view of hardened criminals, America is anything but fair and just. Instead, it is a jungle in which various armed gangs face off against one another.

Applying this hardboiled perspective to American politics, DíSouza saw that the biggest and most powerful gangs inhabiting America are within the federal government. The trailer for his new film provides a shocking glimpse into the case he makes about the seedy underbelly and hidden truth of the Democratic Party.
