  • Finally common sense on Females in Combat Arms and Selective Service Registration.

Simple dump the entire SS system. Waste of money, $23 million a year of waste.

    http://thehill.com/policy/defense/26...d-draft-system

A bipartisan group of four congressmen introduced a bill Thursday that would abolish the Selective Service System, more commonly known as the draft.

“Maintaining the Selective Service simply makes no sense,” Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Colo.), a former Marine, said in a written statement. “In 1973, the last draftee entered the Army and since then, despite the first Gulf War and subsequent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Pentagon has never considered reinstituting the draft. Our all-volunteer military has given us the most elite fighting force in the history of this country.”

Coffman introduced the bill with Reps. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), Jared Polis (D-Colo.) and Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.).
The proposal comes at a time when some are calling for an expansion of the draft to include women because all combat jobs are now open to them.
“The time has come,” the Walrus said,
    “To talk of many things:
    Of shoes—and ships—and sealing-wax—
    Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—
    And whether pigs have wings.”

I suspect they introduced the bill to avoid the train wreck of women having to register rather than for any economic reason. This was off Congress' radar entirely right up to Obama and The Minions of Ignorance putting women in combat positions in the military.

There was no 'train wreck' of women having to register. No law allows for it. So moot issue.

The train wreck is the political sh!tstorm that would ensure if Congress seriously tried to make women register, which they would have to along with all this integration nonsense. Suddenly the abstract concept of integrating combat arms would affect everyone and people would lose it. This is simply a way to dodge the issue until the day that the draft is needed again.

Congress would not seriously try to make women register. Only bill filed to do so was filed by two GOP Reps and has gone no where.

Right, because of the train wreck. Thus they only have two options. Try to dodge the issue by scrapping the draft entirely or open themselves up to lawsuits as they are discriminating unfairly against men by forceing them alone to register for service.

Those lawsuits were settled in the 1980's when registration was reinstated. Allowing women into the combat arms changes nothing with regards to the settled question on women registering.

And that settlement was based on the combat arms exclusion. That was all that justified women being exempt from the draft. Now that that no longer exists there is absolutely zero legitimate reason that women should not shoulder the same responsiblities as men do. Anything else is discriminatory. Give me a good reason why women should get all the benefits that men do but none of the responsibility.

Filling out a form once is a responsibility?

I totally think that females should be subject to the draft. It'd give the political class even more pause before calling for a war or a draft...

The train wreck would be if women had to start registering. It's one of the unintended consequences of opening all combat slots to women. Hence why these congress critters want to end the draft entirely. They know the can of worms and bad publicity that making women start registering for the draft would cause.

Indeed. Real science proves that women don't exist.

Its all very simple: Equal pay, equal rights, equal responsibility

There's absolutely no reason not to require women to register.

Therefore, women should be required to register. Its a no brainer.
