The last I checked they had 12 recognized candidates. The Libertarian Party picks its candidate at its convention which is in May. I figure Gary Johnson will get the nomination again but John McAfee might make it interesting.

Trump is an American Berlusconi. That's a good point . Mind you I'm
not sure the evangelical vote would approve of Trump bunga bunga parties .

        Yeah?
What the hell is it with American democracy?
Two parties (in practical reality) and it's been that way since what?
Basically in some way since the 1820's / 30's?
Are both parties now, (again in practical reality) essentially just variations of a basic political thematic?

Do posters think the two party system is an inherent virtue (provides stability, avoids confusing multifaceted ructions, ensures that 'workable' majorities can at least present and have a chance of passing legislation at the congressional level, keeps political turmoil to a manageable level etc.)?

        or

An inherent problematic? The major reason for the stultifying, moribund, predictable and lumbering, 'same old same old', tweedle dee, tweedle dum, Twilight Zone repeat loop the country senses is wrong but can't change?

Is the thought of an upheaval challenging the 'system' such as Trump or Sanders are implying just not a realistic possibility in a nation as essentially conservative and as fearsome of change as the US?

Like I (lodestar) say 'interesting times' (at least for the US: just remember some countries just thrive on vibrant change, upheaval and combativeness).

Lodestarís stupidity and ignorance amazed virtually everyone: for the first twenty years of his life he believed a Manilla Folder referred to a Filipino contortionist!!

Possibly November (2020) could see Trump vs Sanders battle for the American soul

Yeah what he (lodestar) said. This time around in 2020 probably so.

Seriously. Could be a great contest/showdown about the 'kind of America' the people want.
Both sides get a chance to vent it up to the max. Voter turnout would be the greatest ever.

          Like I said interesting times.

Each and every single election is always touted as "THE MOST IMPORTANT EVER!!!!!"

Wake me up when the Revolution is over...

Honestly, don't you think they keep running crazier and weirder candidates to make it a better show?
Wasn't crazy Bernie a Socialist Party member until Hillary needed somebody to run against?
Presto-chango, a 'Democrat' to serve as her whipping boy... but it didn't turn out that way.
            Did it?

Not only did the Hildabeast fail to deal with him effectively, he opened the door to transforming the Demonrats party into one that is openly Socialist.

Meh, i know who I am voting for in 2020, which is something no Dem can say today.

If it is between Bernie and the Donald we will get screwed.

Typical of a collectivist authoritarian to use religious language when discussing the body politic. Although you could argue that collectivist sell their soul to the state for security the religious language is propaganda.

To choose between Trump and Sanders is not a struggle for the soul but the mind of the people. It's a choice between the historically and demonstratively failed ideology of socialism and a modestly successful administrator.

The state cannot be sovereign that is reserved for the individual. Individuals have "souls" the state cannot. Soulless force is the nature of the state. That is why socialism has always devolves into the tyranny of dark souls such as Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, or Hitler. The soulless socialist state requires a face because humans prefer a cruel master to the void of cold bureaucracy and ideology. Perhaps today that is not so much the case as corporatism, globalism, post modernism and blind determinism has etched away at the souls of individuals sufficiently to render them immune to the discomfort of separation from meaning.

Marx hated liberal democracy because the idea of individual sovereignty is diametrically opposed to the establishment of a soulless socialist state. He was a man that continuously in his personal life rejected responsibility. The soul by meaning born of individual responsibility is brought into existence. Little wonder that his ideology makes the state and not the individual sacred.

Trump is not a dictator but Sanders by definition believes in a collective dictatorship. Sander's life has been about the imposition of the dictatorship of the mob. Calling the mob a democracy doesn't make it any less a soulless tyranny. To look at history and see it any other way speaks to a profound intellectual dishonesty or incompetence.

Interesting times..... as they say in China (or is that New Zealand? I always get those two mixed up)

                          Two 'outsiders'.
Trump actually is a real outsider, Sanders can easily get away with posing as a 'maverick' (the general public just loves that kind of 'maverick' BS, just check out any movie about 'the little guy' or 'loner' battling almost any institution/organisation/ or movement, including ones he or she is part of).

                          Two 'visions' for America
Sanders has one. Trump can easily get away with posing as ........(well you know how it goes).

Sanders reminds me of Carter and McGovern.
Trump, as I said is an American Berlusconi.

Godamm!! I'm so interested I may even apply to become a citizen, just so I can vote!!!
